To the Ba-Ba club, Alhambra, Chennels, No. 7, King George, White Horse? And that club I can't remember the name of close to the Chinese that was always being done for dog meat in the fridge. Good memories (not the dog meat) lambretta 125, Parkers, long hair, Deep Purple, oh where did the 70's go?
In the early 70`s it was called The Hub . When it became the Stables it was a proper dive !. The bouncer only had one eye and was a rough basser!!
Used to go to "Progressive Night"- Wednesdays I think? Live music and I'm pretty sure that Colosseum appeared there one night, unless it is just an imaginary memory. If they did that was quite a big name for a little club in Barnsley.
Does anybody remember a place called Georges. Think it was near Cons Club in tarn. Late 60s early 70s.
The Georges was upstairs where the Conservative Club is, or was, at the end of George Street at the junction with Pitt Street. There was a staircase off the street and then turn right at the top. They used to have Saturday afternoon discos there in the late 60s/early 70s. So did the Boys Club, now the Lamproom.
Did the door man ( couldn't really call him a bouncer cos there weren't a lot of trouble) stamp the back or palm of your hand with an ink pad if you went outside so you could get back in again.
I can remember that we used to wet the stamp and pree it against someones hand hopeing it would transfer and allow us in. There used to be Sunday afternoon all dayers . We used to go then nip up to the Fitzwilliam pub for a drink. Happy days
being from Hoyland I mostly frequented "The Birdcage" in Elsecar. I had 3 lambretta's over the years, two Li 150's and an SX 200.
Used to go to Birdcage then stagger home to Wombwell via the main Barnsley/Sheffield railway line at Elsecar, not really caring too much about oncoming trains. Wow if only my mum knew what I got up to. God rest her soul.
well if you read the OP he mentions his fond memories one being his Lambretta 125 I was just remembering my Lambo's along with him.... have I done summat wrong then
I remember that. I worked in the Boiler shop. They had a licensed bar but the silly sods put Derek Darn in charge of the bar and it was free to all of his mates. Only lasted about 6 months. He had a lot of mates Derek.
Another one of my regular places. Free bus back to Tarn sometimes without windows. Dennis Hawkins was the doorman at the time.
