I'm guessing that this is ironic?

I bet Plymouth have put a sell on clause into the deal though. He was their best player so it's unlikely that they won't have factored something in when we bought him.

Therefore, give us £5 million for him, PAFC get say a million, everyone's a winner including CH who will probably find that he's not quite good enough for PL2

So, let's get this right - he was worth £200k as a 4th tier player, but a year later after a successful season at a higher level he's worth the same? Thank god you're not running the club's transfer dealings!

He aint good enough ****, no amount of corners or penalties will pull the wool over my eyes. Playing him puts the whole team out of shape.

True, lets re-sign non-goalscoring midfielders. Prefer that. At least our shape was good.

Lets sign players who dont need other players being squeezed into the team to do their work for them. Maybe then we could put Winnall in his correct position who would get more goals than Hourihane anyway.

Fancy that eh? Two managers trying whatever it takes to fit the two best players into the team. Barmy.

I will end by re-stating my hopes for Conor to still be here in August. Enjoyed watching him.

Can you do a blog linking us to Messi. The blades would go into meltdown if they heard about us dingles trying to sign a player that is on their list for this summer.

Conor Hourihane is our best player, i have criticised him myself at times, but the stats don't lie.
He might not be the best defensive player, and might leave us vulnerable at times, but its up to the manager to play him in a system that suits him and the team, so in other words we need to build a side around him. Much like we did with Butterfield.
Hopefully Johnson can do just that.

What? Is that your way of trying to cover up that you have no response to my argument?

In case you missed it, my point was that we have to play 2 central midfield players + conor hourihane to accommodate him which then leaves us with one striking spot and he doesnt like playing Winnall on his own. Therefore, its either the shape of the whole team or getting Hourihane in and I know which is the better option.

Hourihane is not yet good enough for Championship football. For his own career, he should stick with is for now, even though I don't think anyone would begrudge him moving to Bolton

Ive said this before, the difference is that Butterfield had the ability to cut defences open with delicate through balls and had much more influence on the game as a whole, Hourihane has his assists through chipping a ball into a general area and hoping one of our big lads gets on the end of it.

If we had players like Butterfield we wouldn't be in league 1 would we?

I empathise with the view that Hourihane couldn't be fitted into a 2 man midfield this season and that led to some difficulties in getting a balanced side - I was as frustrated as anyone at times by this. However, the idea that we should just chalk him off and just hope to recoup our money is ludicrous. There are a number of mitigating factors that suggest we could see some improvement this season:
    1. Lee Johnson has clearly recognised the issue re. His defensive positioning. I'm sure they'll be working on this in the close season
    2. He was stepping up a league and started every single game
    3. Support from the rest of the midfield has been at best patchy and at times non existent. It's clear having even a modicum of support from proper wide players will give Connor more time to play to his strengths.

Im not a fan of Hourihanes at all as you can probably see. Id much rather see us get two decent wingers and a striker and play with two 'holding' type midfielders to shore up for those 4 to attack. Get good service in for Winnall and he'll get 20 no problem, get another striker in who can chip in with 10 and thats Hourihanes goals more than covered as I cant see him ever going through a purple patch again like at the beginning of the season.

Mate, you might be absolutely right. Obviously I hope you're not, and will enjoy bumping this up to the top next season when Conor's on 15 goals and 20 assists by Christmas. I'm sure you won't mind if I do, if that's the case?!
