His game is nothing like Butterfield's. As you say, Jacob was more of a dictator, a creator in open play. His penchant for the spectacular goal is similar, and his corners are better. Physically and in general/open play, he's a mile off. But he's the same age, and last season was his first at this level. To be key to over 30 of our league goals says enough for me to see the value in selecting him. I'm actually astounded that folk are still preferring to pick at him for what he can't do, rather than focus on what he does do, and very well. In fact, folk go even further and try dumbing down the good things he does. It's barmy. But, it's a game of opinions. I'd be very disappointed if we don't see him in a tarn shirt again, and only a very big profit on the fee we paid would allow me to accept it through gritted teeth.
Aye flog your best player great master plan for promotion. Last season without Hourihane we would have been relegated.
Blind prejudice Donny. To be fair though you are consistent. You have been spouting the same rubbish for the last 9 months.
Can't deny that his ability from dead balls gave us plenty of assists last season, but in open play he was much less effective and after the initial purple patch didn't shoot with any great regularity or accuracy. Definitely worth persisting with though and hopefully LJ can improve him. That said, anything like a decent offer, £3m+ and I'd let him go...
No, we definitely wouldnt have. I dare say that had someone else with half decent delivery (cos thats all hourihane has) was taking virtually every set peice, we'd have still scored a bundle from corners. It wasnt fantastic delivery, it was the amount of lads we had who were very good in the air that got us those goals. Apparently this Roberts kid has a superb throw on him, I dare say that will be effective aswell. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thing in the middle of your arm that's your elbow thing you talk out of that's your arse... What I said is factually true take out Hourihane's goals and assists we get relegated. In your version of events you have no facts to back you up. We were the best team in the division from set pieces because of Hourihane. We didn't have one of the tallest or biggest teams in terms of stature but one of the smallest ones. Of the 14 goals Hourihane scored 5 were penalties. That leaves him scoring more than any other player bar Winnall from open play. He assisted twice as many goals from open play as anyone else. I'm not keen on carrots I can see however they are good vegetable and provide nutrition.
What you have is an opinion. Its an opinion because you cant prove that with someone else in his position, taking every set piece can you definitively say they wouldnt have done even better? Can you say that giving the kid every opportunity to impress, i.e setting up the team to benefit him didnt hamper other players in the team and the shape of the team? So no, you dont have facts, you have an opinion. Get back to me when you have a brain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You're starting to dig yourself a hole now for all sorts of reasons which I don't really need to go into. This thread reminds me rather of the summer after we got relegated from the Prem, when a vociferous member of this board insisted that Neil Redfearn needed to be sold, and duly celebrated when he was. Obviously we did pretty well that next season......
We could have saved the money on Hourihane put it on a 250 million to one shot and bought Messi and Ronaldo with the profits. It's possible. Anything is possible it's not an opinion to say that take Hourihane's goals and assists out we would have got relegated it's a cold fact that you don't like.

All players have a price and Hourihane has his. If someone offers us 3 million plus we should take it. Of course I remember you saying we should give him away for what we paid for him.
Like Hourihane, Butterfield got slated by many Reds... Baffles me, as IMHO both our best and most creative players. I can only think its because these lads didn't run around like headless chickens or cover ground like the likes of Josh Scowen. You could say Conor is a poor mans Frank Lampard. He arrives late, scores thundering goals from outside the box, and creates many goals for others. He scored and assisted more goals than most. But yet he gets pelters from several quarters. IMHO you need a mix of players in the side. And Conor and Josh Scowen are as best in this league. But our problem has been right and left sided midfield. O'Sullivan made a huge impact. Others such ala Jennings and Treacy were big dissapointment. Get that right and we will be a force to be reckoned with. I just hope Conor is still in our midfield, or that we get a ridiculous sum £3m for him.
No... Headless chicken or cover ground like Scowen. scowen has a purpose. Hence not a headless chicken. Scowen and Hourihane are our best players IMHO. But fans seem to admire those who run around like headless chickens e.g. Dawson and Perkins. I put Bailey in that category too. They worked hard to win the ball, then DOH, lost possession again!
Stop trying to change subject. Hourihane would be a huge loss. He's not irreplacable like any player but if he leaves should command a substantial fee considering age, potential, last seasons stats, and player of the year for respective clubs two years running... TBH I would be surprised if no one came in for Scowen.
Was talking to work mate yesterday and we said same about Scowen teams can take chances on our players because we sell so cheaply
