The yellow ones on the motorway Am i right in thinking they dont get motorbikes due to the camera's only facing forward and obviously bikes dont have number plates at the front Or am i missing something
Yes, one came past me other day at considerably more than 50mph. I assume that to be the case and indeed for all forward facing cameras?
This is the exact same reason i brought this up Pisses you off going 50mph then a motorbike comes past at 80mph haha
The ones on the motorway face backwards if they are working and will get bikes. Also they are usually set at 57-58mph so you can always go a little faster if you want to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My mate speeds his van through them all the time. He drives down the white dotted line at each set of cameras and reckons that they can't focus on his plate. Says he's never been done but I'm not going to risk it.
I've been done doing 57mph average on the Motorway near Stockport so I wouldn't take that as gospel mate.
They are there to protect the workforce, just stick to the limit. Must be great fun working on the motorway while bell-ends speed past because they know how to defeat the cameras.
Well I can only speak for the sites I've been on, never known any be lower than 57. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I always try to keep to the speed limit through roadworks on Motorways but just got dragged along with the speed of other cars this time. They go on for that long all over the country at the moment its enough to send you mad.
I came through the 50mph section around Daventry late at night a couple of weeks ago. Had the cruise set at 53 in the middle lane overtaking a truck when the one following me decided he couldn't wait for me to get past so he went into the outside lane and passed me going about 60. He wasn't the only one either, a couple more decided to overtake in the outside lane, and they were UK trucks. What makes it worse, there were people working as they had shut some parts of the motorway down to 1 lane, so from them to drive through at that sort of speed is crazy. At one point there were three lorries side by side.
Don't know if it's true but it has been said that you can only be caught with the camera in the same lane. Ie if you swap lane for each camera your speed can't be measured. ?????
Me too. There is another section further down the M1 too that has about 18 miles of cones and you're lucky to see three workmen and a JCB throughout the whole stretch. It drives me bloody mad.
OK. When I was in the loop, the customary discretion for these temporary limits was "10 per cent plus two". I don't go out of my way to get to that sort of speed, but equally I don't tend to worry too much unless I get towards 55 mph. That said, technically you're outside the law at 51 mph and can have no complaints if you get caught. It does seem that 50 mph is the near universal limit on our motorways at the moment. There's about 20 miles plus south of Worksop, about 10-15 miles on M1 North towards Leeds, and now the bulk of the M1 from Dod'eth to Meadowhall is under a 50 mph limit. This is mainly for the so-called "smart motorway". Hard shoulder running in due course, which in my view will prove lethal. I understand the majority of the M25 is now under smart motorway conditions, and zero tolerance enforcement has resulted in an avalanche of speeding penalties for marginal infringements - so we are all warned when the regime has been completed up here. That said - you don't speed - you don't get done.
Went down the M1 on Tuesday from Barnsley to London, and it seemed as though well over half the journey of 180 miles was subject to 50mph max.
Yes, but there's no fecker working there most of the time, they even say as much themselves on the guidelines on the internet. Fifteen mile stretch of 50 mph between M1 Junctions 28-3, and the same further down near Northampton1. Absolute joke - you might see a couple of people during the day.
