I don't get the attraction of rides like this myself. I know thousands love them but I wouldn't care to risk my life for a "thrill", especially on one that has already had several safety issues. I had to go to Thorpe Park a few years ago where the teenager in our party went on every single ride going. I STUPIDLY gave in and got myself strapped into the Nemesis ride. That's the one that featured in the Inbetweeners episode where Will got caught out abusing some downs syndrome kids who he thought had jumped the queue. I thought I was going to die! Or be violently sick. Luckily neither happened but it was such a disturbing experience that I vowed never to go near one of these rides ever again. And I won't!
Love rollercoasters, love Alton Towers and the like. Adrenaline rush. And always good for a few beers and laughs. Back in my singleton days.
The article lists five past issues. So now they have had six mishaps and it's only been open two years.
Took my eldest there last September during an inset day, Smiler was the best ride I've ever been on. I'd go on it again; my wife can always re-marry and we have a spare child anyway.
I used to love them but as I've got older I've grown to hate them. I went on one several years ago when the kids were younger and it made me feel ill.
I still love them. All rides. Except ones that spin round incessantly, like Waltzers, thry make me feel (always have though).
Two from Barnsley in the four that have supposedly got 'life changing' injuries. One of them is an 18 year old lad from Ardsley, a friend of my son
I love roller-coasters. I'd go on the mentioned ride today if I could. I have every sympathy with those injured. Unfortunately, however stringent we are, accidents do happen, whether that be on a roller-coaster or crossing the street to the shop. What I'm struggling to understand is why the passengers were stuck on the ride for several hours after it crashed. While I appreciate we can never make something 100% safe, due in no small part to human error, we can make sure that if things do go wrong we are able to remedy the situation a hell of a lot quicker than that. Stuck on a roller-coaster for several hours would be very unpleasant, having to do that while injured would be horrendous.
You really have taken that Motherwell result hard. TBH I'd have thought you'd have been used to it after the roller coaster season The Rangers have had this season.
Same here. As a young person they are a thrill ride and plenty of fun. Nowadays the interest has gone for queueing for maybe a couple of hours to go on an overpriced ride that might last two minutes and where your ears feel the wrath of others screaming.
They were trapped by their legs crushed by the metal. I'm not sure if you have seen the images but where there is normally a 2 foot gap between the rows of the rollercoaster between the front row of the back carriage and the back row of the front one (ie the collision row) there isn't an inch of room and in fact the row which the seriously injured were in the floor has buckled as it has been squashed so much. I'm not sure how long it takes to free people from a car crash in similar circumstances but I imagine its quite a long time isn't it?
The second you step out of bed you could get a serious injury, I'd go on smiler again, unfortunately there was a serious accident yesterday and it's only because so many people got injured and it was a big crash that it's been in the news, think of how many accidents there is on the roads every day I do feel for the people who have life threatening injuries it must be awful
Personally if people go on the ride when it reopens and the next accident happens (half a dozen already in two years so another incident is bound to happen) it will be hard to have sympathy for them as they will know what the risks are. This time is different because it's the first real serious one compared to the other five.
Not really, this is the only serious accident and it sounds as if it was caused by human error. Your statement is like saying that it's hard to have sympathy for someone who gets killed by a drunk driver because they know what the risks are.
Yes you could trip on something on the floor and break your leg or a walk down the street and get run over by something mounting th kerb. Driving a car is really dangerous. I know all that but there is a difference between going about your daily business and willingly boarding a "thrill" ride. The first things you have to do. The last one you don't.
