Saw a while ago that he was in a bad way. How very, very sad. All too easy for anyone to fall into the abyss if events pan out in a certain way.
I thought he was getting himself together a while ago, sad to see him in such a bad way again. Classy full back he was.
Really sad. The liklihood is that its not going to happen to a top flight player of the modern day premier league footballer. Arsenal and England great. Needs help and support.
Blokes seem to be much more likely to fall apart than women. Men usually commit suicide, not women. I guess it is that when a divorce comes around, the woman usually continues to look after the children and keeps the house, so women continue to have a role and a purpose. Men, on the other hand, suddenly lose everything - house, wife, don't see their children every day - and then they start to crumble
The divorce rate among ex-pros is significantly higher than the average, particularly in the first few years after quitting playing full-time. Probably as soon as the women realise that the wages have gone and they don't actually like spending 24 hours a day with them...
Alternatively, pro footballers behave like cnuts their entire professional careers, including shagging anything that walks.. My sympathy for those who have it all and throw it away, is limited..
Sansom won't have been anywhere near as wealthy as footballers are today. I doubt he was ever in a position to be classed as having it all.
Agreed. Was a general response to scoffs point, around money grabbing women bleeding poor footballers dry..
