People need to remember that I am the first black driver in F1, so I am obviously going to be different to past drivers.

Isn't he a bloke from Stevenage with a white mum and an English (but black) dad who both were born and raised in England. I don't see how him happening to have darker skin than me should make him different

In what context did he say it?

He was talking about how he uses twitter and Instagram and things more than other drivers and said basically its because he's black so he's different to the other drivers which I just don't understand at all. Take away the mirrors in his house growing up and surely hes just another English lad from stevenage

White mum you say? He mentions step mum when growing up, is that the lady you're thinking of?

I've just seen it. I'll admit the comment does seem a little out of place but I don't take anything bad from it. He'll know the point he was trying to make, it can't be easy having to word things correctly all the time knowing that your every word is going to be pored over and analysed.

His real mum and his step mum and stepfather are all white British, its only his dad who is black and he too was born and raised in England. His comment probably had some meaning to it but it just doesn't seem to make sense in the context of the article. Didn't take anything bad from it though, just found it odd

He's the best F1 driver since Senna in my opinion. S'all that matters to me, as an F1 fan. I've often cringed at some of the stuff he does/says outside the cockpit, but in that car he's the most exciting driver by a mile. Although I do find Maldonado exciting to watch, the bloke's ace without other cars in the way, very quick and drives on the edge, but in races he's exciting because he can't help retiring. Proper mental.

No that's fair enough, as I said it does seem a little out of place.

I wasn't aware of his parentage. Doesn't really matter though, he is a black man. He's also the 1st black f1 driver.

Willie Ribbs Jnr was first black person to drive a Formula 1 car in 1986 when he tested the car for Brabham in Portugal, but wasn`t given the drive for the season.

White mans sport at that time.

Have seen darker skinned white folk than Lewis he is just wishy washy.

So is Susie Wolff the first female F1 driver because she's done some testing/practice?

I was hoping to bump into Lewis whilst in Monaco, didn't happen. I did though bump into Ken Bates. Which wa ****.

It was on Casino Square. He sat down and ordered a 17 euro Lemonade at the same time we baulked at the price of 19 euro for a lager. We ended up paying 8 euro a bit further round the track (city). Exciting stuff.
