As an exile I have to rely on the "World" commentary for a large proportion of the games. If this move stops the constant breaks and frustration of having to swap to the opposition commentary anyway four or five times a game then I am all for it.
why can't they get it streamed on to T'Internet I would pay handsomely for that, Live Video for all games. Look at the amount of baseball/basketball, American football games they can get to tap into over the pond. I am sure many fans would welcome this and pay good money for it too. I certainly would, yes I know its not the same as being there but that's a tough job for me and for a good deal of others too.
seems pointless to have subscription now as this was the big draw to it for those who couldn't get to the games. Might aswell listen to radio Sheffield now Lets hope channel 5 does something decent with the highlights now
That's seriously poor form, especially if they're doing it or willing to do it for nowt. They're not the greatest commentators, but I'd rather listen to BFC fans doing it than your average journos. It's not the first time folk associated with commentary have been shafted by the club either. I have a Player subscription but logged into it perhaps 3-4 times last season for away commentaries, one of which wasn't available. But I never had an issue with paying the subs, because for the last few years the club have been making a big deal about how they make extra on top of what we pay. I'll be cancelling now though.
From what I can gather, the usual bloke sent to our games by Radio Sheffield who does reports every 15 minutes etc, he'll do full commentary. But it won't be on Radio Sheff, he'll still break off to give reports, but those with Player will get his full comm live. I think. It's how Huddersfield do it. Paul Ogden's Radio Leeds comm of all Town games is streamed to their Player.
Maybe it's this forum's fault...Post after post calling for the club to be more professional in its presentation, Ben listens and scraps amateur commentators...Careful what you wish for.
just cos othere clubs do it doesnt mad PASSIONke it right. Sick with the Tarn lads. Im with you on this. One word - PASSION
So the club have made a business decision and are utilising a big brand corperation and not a home made solution?? I thought it's what we've been crying out for all this time.... Mind I've never listened to player so il shut me trap
Surprised at the response by this, after coming back from matches most of times it's mostly been complaints about the commentary.
Bad decision, I loved listening to the passion of Matt and Adam. The desperation on their voices if we were hanging on used to strike the fear of god into me but enjoyed it all the same.
Feel bad for the guys in the way they've been let go after 19 years of service, however, I much preferred the BBC commentary over that of our own if we were on BBC Sheff
hate to sound like a **** but if this improves the sound etc - ISDN issues i am all for it Would have been even better with Matt commentating but i dont pay £5.00 a month for commentary to cut out every 2 mins
I've no problem with switching to BBC if its what the fans want. The BBC commentary is more professional by a long way. It's more polished. It's also a lot blander and less passionate. I've said before that matt and co are amateurs and they are but that's no bad thing its just a different style of commentary that you get. One is a set of fans (who are very good at commentary) reporting on THEIR team and that coems through in the commentary. The other is a professional commentator with no real ties to the club and that comes across too. The problem I have with this is that once again we appear to have somebody telling the fans what they want instead of asking and you just can't do that. You can't go dictating what we do and do not want from a product. You wouldn't get Nestlé suddenly changing kitkats to being marshmallow instead of biscuit inside. It just wouldn't ever happen. What would happen is they would survey thousands of people, do product tests and get feedback and then decide if the feedback suggests fans want it or not. Bernie ecclestone has been telling fans what they want for years and look at the state of formula one now. Nobody actually likes it anymore. Vince McMahon has been doing the same in wrestling and it has seen a huge decline in popularity because of it. Sorry Ben, Patrick, mark, but you cannot go around telling supporters what they want without asking first.
