Just seen this and logged onto my account, it looks to have changed in so much that you could untick the auto renew box. I cannot find this option. I am hoping it expires because I don't want them taking money without asking. Can anyone enlighten me. Anyway this HD stuff is no good for my internet speeds.
I'm in some what of a minority on here as I like the coverage we get from Radio Sheffield. I reckon Paul Walker is one of the best football commentators there is. Not in the local area, but in the country. He's first class. I also really enjoyed the co-commentary from Derrick Parker. He knows his stuff and says it how he sees it. How it is. If he comes across as permanently glum, it's not his demeanour, it's because we've been **** for the best part of 15 years. However, I also have a lot of time for Matt and believe he's got better and better over the years. The commentary may be biased, but it's very good. He may not quite be up to Paul Walker's standards, few are, but he's as good, if not better, than the rest of Radio Sheffield's commentators. It won't be a hardship for me listening to Radio Sheffied's commentary as I like it. But we've now lost the choice, which really is a shame. And, by the sounds of it, dumped some very committed people who put their heart and soul in to providing a service that just kept getting better. They deserved better. So do we all.
Check your direct debits you may find they have set up a new one for the 'new' service, I seem to have this anyway.
Very sad day today for me - as a long distance fan I cant get to all our home games and only a small number of away games so often listened to the commentary on Player - or whatever its called this year I have enjoyed Matt and Adams commentary - they tell it how they see it - a fans eye vieq And I suspect thats the problem sometimes they have been critical of the performance of either the manager , the team or tactics etc. Exactly the sort of things Fans have said at the game , or in the pub or on here afterwards I suspect it may be this that has caused their demise - its not so long since radio Sheffield were effectively banned for being critical so doubtless once a few negative comments are made by Paul Walker or Derrick Parker we will be back where we started. So I will need to decide whether to keep my subscription - to be honest my passion is going so I think there is a good chance I will cancel anyway and just not spend Saturday afternoons Tuesday evenings listening - I will live without Mats commentary and if I do continue Paul Walker is a perfectly acceptable alternative I am more saddened though by the apparent way this has been handled - guys who have dedicated years to the club, provided the commentary when the club ejected radio Sheffield , and are a sound I and many associate with our team appear to have been ruthlessly culled without even a thankyou. I don't like the way football team I support is run and that sooner or later will become a problem Stronger together ?
Cheers Sholingtyke, just looked and nothing set up. i remember un-ticking the box last time waiting for the cheaper offers so i assume it continued like that.
It's not going to be Paul Walker and Derrick Parker though. It'll be whoever they send on any given day. Paul rarely does commentaries anymore, he's moved on. Although that might change now the FLS has gone. The station will continue as it always has, and that's by focussing on both Sheffield clubs, doing their games live on the radio most weeks, with a rare live BFC game once a month etc. But we'll get live commentary from every game, via whichever bloke they send to our games. Probably Adam Oxley, who is also a good lad and a decent commentator. I have zero issue with the standard of quality we'll receive. We're falling in line with other clubs. Barnsley FC is a business, and they make decisions based on that, rather than loyalty etc. I don't agree with what they've done, regardless of bias. But it is what it is. In the last few years the club have shat on Craig Hignett (offered him the job, then took it away the day they invited him to watch the game), never responded to Nicky Eaden's correspondence, allowed managers to treat such as Hassell, Foster and Steele like enemies, and now got rid of two BFC supporters without so much as a thank you. In it together. Be Proud Be Barnsley. Continuing to spend hundreds of thousands in compensation to managers they sack at the first sign of bother, but cutting costs by getting shut of staff earning a few hundred quid a month. Sounds Tory to me..
That's what happens when you have someone like Mansford in charge. He's not from Barnsley, probably doesn't understand what it's like to follow the club. Another awful decision, but don't worry, we'll have a new badge soon and maybe a scoreboard in 2020. In Mansford we trust.
Wouldn't know Matt or Adam if I fell over them in the street. But their commentaries were a bloody pleasure. I'll miss them. Probably going to **** Player off now.
Disappointed that Matt & Adam won't be doing it anymore but I'll wait until we get a response from Mansford before slating them
Absolutely gutted, in fact beyond gutted! I love their commentary, when I have been able to attend the match I always watch it back the next day on Player just to hear their commentary. It just won't feel like listening to BFC when it's not their voices. You always know something exciting is happening when his voice cracks!
It isn't (I refuse to say wasn't) just a commentary with Matt & Adam. It's like having a couple of mates round on Match Days. Plus the quality of "guest summarisers" knocks the biased self-centred tw@ts like Edwards & O'Reagan into the middle of next week. I wonder if Radio S6/7 will even acknowledge we're on the pitch when we start next season at the mighty Chesterfield (the latest suburb of Sheffield, or so I'm told).
I also like to listen to the commentary back after games, to hear their reaction when we score, it's as priceless as a goal sometimes. Matt and Adam will be missed. Sadly if we want to listen to the games from a distance, we have little alternative. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Poor form Barnsley FC. I can understand if the commentators we have weren't very good but I think they do an excellent job. Having some generic Radio Sheffield commentator with no real connection or passion for Barnsley FC feels like a step backwards for the club and its identity to me. The Supporters' Trust will be asking Ben Mansford why the club felt the need to turn their backs on Reds fans who have dedicated so many years to provide us with such a great service. <iframe id="rufous-sandbox" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" style="display: none;"></iframe>
This is what happens when you have people who are not from Barnsley, and who don't understand Barnsley sentiments, running things.
