I love my club and have missed football alot all summer so far, even though we are *****. Our current squad as it is, is nowhere near good enough to challenge for top 6, with the season 1 month away. Anyone else worried about the lack of players coming in,
No. Not concerned at all atm. If we've not signed anyone by the Middlesbrough game I'll start wondering what's going on.
We have defence sorted did well to get mawson. We have signed watkins just need couple wingers a striker and some squad players and were sorted.
The idea that our defence is sorted is probably the biggest misjudgement by any Barnsley manager since I've been watching. 4 teenagers each with fewer than 20 games to their name, 2 non league players with no experience of league football, a 20 year old with just one year of league 2 football to his name, and Nyatanga, a player I like, but a lot of people thought was ***** prior to the second half of last season. I've got in date bread with more experience.
Im with you on this. There seems a school of thought that signing some good defenders with experience will 'block' the progress of the teenagers we have coming through. The idea that playing teenagers as first choice defenders will harm our chances of promotion seems to be secondary. Injuries, suspensions, loss of form over 46 games plus cup will give plenty opportunity to the children we have coming through the ranks. If LJ thinks we have enough in defence then i feel it will end up costing us this season.
I could accept it if i thought for a moment that our talented youngsters would mature with us in to a promotion team. But they'll be sold as soon as interest arises. Even getting a 'good' fee for them is scant consolation if we'll only replace them with kids again, who will require time to mature, before being sold, again prior to us having a team developed enough to win promotion. The policy works if there's an objective beyond developing kids for purely financial game. Otherwise we are basically an academy developing players for richer clubs whilst we tread water in the football pyramid.
I think only Nyatanga, Mawson, Holgate, Smith and Bree are ready for first team football. A couple of injuries and we're really struggling. I'd like to see us bring in a left back and an experienced centre half. I think we'll be sorted at the back then. We're fine for central midfield but we're severely lacking in the wide areas and up front. If Johsnon reckons we only need 3/4 more players then I'd expect 2 strikers and 2 wingers. Don't know if strengthening the defence anymore is on his agenda.
I'm mildly concerned I'd say we are 7/8 players + a couple of inevitable loanees away from a competitive squad . Early days I know but a lot to do.
Past caring now to be honest, club seems **** scared to get lumbered with players the next manager won't want, so they drag their feet all summer then load up with loan players that can go back, 5/6 permanent signings in the summer, and over 10 loan signings throughout the season seems to be the way we are doing things, it'll never get you promoted but it'll keep you in the black. Just get used to it, I'm starting to come to terms with it I suggest you lot try to do the same
Lol. The bloke who has been bairning constantly starts telling everyone else to calm down. Whatever will be will be.
I've made mi mind up just to think fu'ck it, it's obvious what's going to happen, so I'm just going to concentrate ont match days, and have a it'll be right attitude towards the club
I'll still read the board and comment on players and games, but I think my days of posting about the running of the club and the lack of direction are done with its just pointless nothing's going to change we all know the clubs fu'cked, as I say I'm just going to concentrate on the playing side of things. we're going to struggle year on year with the way the club go about their business, it's time to just ignore it like rest of you do, it's impossible for me to pretend that everything is Rosie like most on here do, but I'm just going to try and have a arr fu'ck it approach
Ok, thats one less moaner about transfers we dont have to worry about, frankly i dont want you to stop posting, what would the point in a forum be if people didnt have different opinions?
I've said it all along theirs certain people on here that if they stopped posting the place would become like all the other lower league forums dead most of the time.
The club isn't fu'cked. Based on attendances we finished about where we should have done last season. We have to work with what we have and we don't have enough money to make box office signings. We're a run of the mill club that isn't doing great but isn't doing bad. Load of drama queens on here that need a bit of perspective.
