Yeah but Luke Shaw went for £30 million so Ipswich were screwed. You cannot compare Mason Holgate to Tyrone Mings. It's just daft.
You saw a different player and an entirely different situation to the one I saw. He was good and obviously had huge potential, but he was still learning. We didn't even play him in his preferred position of centre half because we didn't think he was ready. We were bottom of the league and our manager had been sacked when he was sold. He played some quality football, but, due to his inexperience, he also made plenty of mistakes and a number of Championship players got the better of him. That's not a criticism of Stones, he was only 18 and had made just two first team appearances before the 2012/13 season, but coasting through games he certainly wasn't, he was learning the game.
Bailey, Milan , Holgate. No others really other than youth. Phenix was training with first team but kit man came and spoke to him and he rushed off in car.
Just a bit of history, apparently back in December: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...toring-barnsleys-18-year-old-defender-4882218
That's football I suppose, I thought he was head and shoulders above owt I've seen in a Barnsley shirt far too good for league he was in that's why he moved
he is clearly a decent player....so we need to get shut asap...as usual.....and for as little as possible just like stonesy there was me thinking it may change a bit under jase & co.....errrmmmm
Bailey and Milan have been transfer listed, Holgate has, allegedly, refused a contract extension, but considering how small and inexperienced the squad is, I'd have them training with the first team. A couple of injuries in pre-season (which we always seem to get) and Johnson will have to pick them in August, never mind when match injuries and suspensions start to kick in. Why piss off perfectly good players when you haven't yet signed their replacements, even if they're not your ideal or they haven't done exactly what you want. It's only a few years ago when Watkins was released by League 2 Cheltenham, he's got 8 starts in English professional football to his name, Mawson has never played at this level before and Roberts has never played league football before, and that's all we've brought in. They might all be great, but they might not be good enough, or not ready, and no one will know which until we start playing competitively in August. We've haven't got enough players left from last season to make a team. I'd wait until we signed enough to be able to do that before alienating what we've already got.
Mason? Tyrone? FFS. Ridiculous names. If I were the boss I'd only sign players called Jim, Frank, Dave or The Beatles names (minus Ringo). This is what happens when your Global CEO is called "Ben".
Oh and Jack Cowgill looks taller and physically bigger from what he did last year. The squad doesn't look to thin Jay. Maybe another striker needed.
Jack. That's a proper name, not "Jay". Jay is a short, muscular player with Koi tattoos & a baseball cap. Jack wears a well pressed Farah & has a DIY anchor tattoo.
He's been at the club since he was nine. Even if he wants to leave he should sign a longer contract play for the club and get a move that way. While making the club as much cash as possible. show a bit of loyalty to the club who have put so much time and effort into developing him. but that's just silly, why would a player do that
We struggled to get a starting eleven with 25 professional games most of last season and the second half was a success the way I see it.
I never saw that to be honest. The thing that surprised me & my old man the most was how few mistakes Stones made, I expect young players to have flaw's but he didn't.
It's easy to say 'show loyalty' but Holgate's a kid probably on less than a grand week with a year left on his deal. If Villa's come in for him you can guarantee it'll be 10k or more a week on a 4 or 5 year deal and that's probably a conservative figure. It's an incredible opportunity to make himself a millionaire & set himself up for the rest of his life. Whilst I don't want to see him go & really rate him there's no doubt it's a move he should make / push for if its on the table. You've only to look at Dave Watson to see how a promising playing career can end so soon. If he does go it's just a shame we didn't get to see more of him, similar scenario to Stones. Quality, local talent that we only get about 20 games out of, that's the disappointment for me
