...in that this must be the first Summer that I am not chomping at the bit for the season to start. Is it an age thing or has the last 8/9 seasons sapped all my enthusiasm?
Same. Part from bobby's sham of a testimonial I haven't even bothered to look at any of our friendly fixtures never mind bothered to check our proper fixtures.
I'm afraid I can't join you in that. Not that I'm desperate to see the footy, but I'm missing Setdi afternoons in the pub. No real excuse to do that in the close season. During the football season the game usually spoils an otherwise excellent day.
I'm looking forward and excited for the new season. Expectations will be higher than last but I'm getting edgy at our lack of reinforcements
Couldn't give a toss this year, my supporting of Barnsley Football Club goes as far as checking the results at 6pm and going "yay" or "oh well"
My expectations are significantly lower. Last season we were told we didn't need to release players and had lots of money for buying new players. We had a championship squad and were one of the leagues bigger teams with a vastly experienced and successful manager at the healm. This season we have a squad that would struggle to complete a 5aside competition, we have an inexperienced and judging by the games we saw him last season, hugely uninspiring head coach, we don't even know what that means. We had little success last season and now we have a smaller squad. Unless something drastic changes in the next few weeks we will be lucky to stay up
Other than the random Saturday drinking i'm not particularly missing it. My expectations for the season are very low. With the team we have at the minute i can' see anything but struggle. Early days i suppose. Looking forward to Tramlines more than the football.
We were fairly terrible in most of them though weren't we and had a better team than we do at the minute
We played our best football of the season in the 6 weeks prior to Winnall's injury both after that and before that under both managers we were poor. Under Johnson and post Christmas under Wilson we relied on Hourihane's quality from set pieces and hoofing it up to the big man whilst defending a 1 goal lead. Underwhelming. The Donny match was no worse than the Sheff Utd game at home
I always enjoy the summer break to recharge the system for the following season. When the time comes I'll be looking forward to seeing the new recruits along with the young players who performed so well last year coming back with more experience. I don't understand people who crib about new signings some who most have never seen.Every season is a new challenge but this coming term I fully expect to be there or there about all season. We've kept our better players and with 12 months behind them I expect they will come back all the more ready for league one football.
Me 2 and Donnie was perhaps the worst performance last season, far worse than the Colchestr game where we at least played ok first half.
We will have to agree to disagree on that one at the minute we would struggle to put out a 5 a side team. With the probable loss of both Holgate and Turnbull we will be losing our best young player and our most experienced player. It seems like we have got the rules wrong and are trying to put out an u21 team with 3 over age players. Our current team is sigificantly weaker than the one we ended the season with again imo.
Just got back from a fantastic holiday, seen we've signed a few players for the first team and development squad, first friendly of the Summer today, still plenty of time to bring in yet more lads before the season kicks off in four weeks time. I always look forward to a new campaign with optimism and this one's no different. Signed Not a reight fan.
