Has he hell! The game should've been arranged for last Summer and was the responsibility of Bobby's testimonial committee to organise it, no one else. Johnson will be getting the blame for Danny being sacked next.
LJ stated that Hasesll could only have testimonial this summer if it was part of pre season matches. I agree it should have been last season , but I fail to see why Wilson was mentioned at all ?
Bobby's getting a testimonial and he's extremely grateful to Lee Johnson for allowing him to use a pre season friendly for it. He was quite clear about that in his radio interview. It's a pity that others couldn't organise this properly, but to blame Johnson for any of it is pathetic, in my opinion. The reason Wilson was mentioned is people (me, for example) were asking for him to be given the time to get the club finally moving in the right direction on the field. Impatience by some fans and, more importantly, the board meant that didn't happen. When Johnson was appointed, I repeated the mantra. Unfortunately, some fans have been on his back from day one (the same with Wilson) some of whom were big Danny fans and he, too, has been subjected to OTT criticism (again, like Wilson) for the tiniest of issues. Also, unless I'm now living in a police state, I'm allowed to mention anything/anyone I like in one of my posts.
The part that I'm failing to understand is how we have a stadium sat there unused for over 100 days this summer yet the only option for a testimonial is during the 5 hours that it is being used for pre season friendlies
I was just wondering why you were talking about Wilson to me? I never wanted him to go, I would have given hin a couple of years. But Bobby`s match should have been sorted last year, It should have nothing to do with the squad for this year . It should be a team of Bobby`s choice. LJ should have nothing to do with the match. The club as a whole have fecked up big style over this match. A testimonial against bloody Mansfield !!!
That, my old friend, is a very impressive, excellent, astute point. Who are you and what have you done with SuperTyke??
I am Conor Hourihane and I have locked him in the garden shed till he can learn to say nice things about me. I say 'I' locked him in the shed. In reality Josh Scowen did all the work dragging him in there, sedating him and closing the door. I just turned the key and got all the credit
Happy for it be part of a friendly? Or accepting it to be part of a friendly? Bobby seems to be the kind ofnguy who doesn't ask for much and is happy with whatever he gets, that doesn't mean that it is what he ideally wants though.
As far as I understand it, in order to meet certain Inland Revenue rules, the appointed testimonial committee must do all the organising for fund raising events, NOT the football club. The only time the football club can be involved with anything officially (to ensure everything is kept within the aforementioned rules) is by stating which dates the stadium will be available. Re reading this thread, I come across as a bigger git than usual. I apologise, my old friend, and put it down to post holiday blues.
So what mate? If Bobby is happy, that'll do for me. I'm just happy that he's happy and we get to happily say goodbye, thanks and farewell (until he returns one day, hopefully).
In all fairness to Bobby's committee, I think a number of clubs have apparently given back word at the last moment.
Exactly. Others involved. I'm being careful on this. I wish there was as much clamour for tickets as there is clamour for trying to bloody find fault etc in everything.
The poor opposition plus the compromise that the testimonial will only actually last 20 minutes preceded by a normal 70 minute friendly has dampened a lot of peoples enthusiasm unfortunately
