Good luck to the bloke, still good enough for an average championship team. Unfortunately he's always been in struggling sides which obviously as a defender doesnt look too good. Good player.
Quality backup/squad player though, can play in various positions. My issue with him at Oakwell was the fact he was pulling 6k a week and not giving the sort of performances at L1 level that a top earner ought to. If he gets a similar wage at Huddersfield he'll be one of the lower earners...
He's certainly OK as a backup but then when he was retained and they were released was he as good a backup as bobby hassell or Stephen foster? I believe that both of those were better versatile players than him and that has been one of our biggest problems in recent years. We have got rid of our better players and replaced them with poorer ones until somehow we were in the position that cranie who was one of our worst defenders became our most senior defender and captain.
Looking at other clubs with a head coach, it seems they recruit/retain/release/flog players by committee..
My worry with that is who exactly makes up the committee? Surely is isn't Ben, Patrick and Barry is it?
Town handed a start to trialist defender Martin Cranie, the former Barnsley skipper, who lined up on the right side of a three-man defence and looked tidy and composed.
Huddersfield 9/2 for relegation. That price may vanish if Cranie signs. (Wouldn't wish it on Jake though, Whitey).
