For 1 million.. http://the72.co.uk/31022/premier-league-outfit-set-to-secure-deal-for-league-one-star/
We probably won't get a million for him, if we do its a decent amount for a league one defender that's made 20+ apps. I'm guessing us making him train with our development squad ruins any chance of him coming back on loan at some point too.
I don't think this would be such bad business. He's a promising lad, but I wouldn't put him in the Stones class, and we have cover now in that position. In any case, sounds like he's reluctant to sign a new deal. Good luck to the lad.
I'm now in the 'get shut' brigade! It's pharcical, obviously listening to his advisers rather than those who've nurtured him and paid him into the priveleged position he now finds himself. If he's not willing to knuckle down then so be it. Take the cash and move on I say. It can't be healthy for those young lads in and around who he's training/playing with.
He has 1 year left. Signed a contract, in fact his first professional contract last year. Club should back the ability of some young ins and offer more than 2 years if we really believe in them and our ability to develop them. 1m for a player destined to leave anyway this season, fair enough. I suggest we need the cash as we are looking a little short in the 1st team area right now.
Held to ransom again. Spose there's nowt we can do, other than get the best money we can. Leaves a bitter taste for me like. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Me too especially as we have invested in the last 10 years of his development. Least he could do was sign an extension and keep himself playing in the shop window. I believe Bree and Stones did this. We could have got more then.
Very good deal considering the circumstances. His contract is up at the end of the season and he is refusing to sign an extension with us. Good riddance. He'll only be loaned out to some championship club anyway, so more fool him. Let's use the money wisely and bring in a few players as we need them! Otherwise it's going to be another long hard season of struggle and strife. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Me too. Stones signed a new deal knowing that he'd still get a deal with a premier league club (he knew he was good enough) and having a longer contract meant we could get a better deal for him (the fact we didn't is the clubs fault). It gets to the point where clubs must start to think 'what is the point in developing these young lads' because for every John Stones you have ten Mason Holgates who forget everything that's been done for them since they were young kids as soon as they are shown any attention by bigger clubs.
Great deal if true. Let's just ask for the £1m upfront with no add ons or clauses. These won't be necessary as he will not make it at that level.
I'd give George Williams a long awaited run of games on the right side now. But for whatever reason Johnson doesn't appear to rate him, even though in every first team game he's played (not many granted) he's looked alright.
He's not even remotely the same class as John Stones. So if we do get £1m-£1.5m plus substantial sell on should he flourish then I think we can invest that money better right now. Stones was different. He'd proved he could mix it in Championship, not League 1. He had a longer contract and seemingly more grounded attitude. if we get a deal anywhere near the Stones one I think for once we have mugged a team not the other way round. Im rubbish at predicting how good a player will be but Holgate in my eyes, if he fulfills potential, will be a top championship/bottom premiership player.
