If he has no interest in committing himself to a new contract, why should he play? Seems fair enough to me, don't sign, don't play then, sell him to the highest bidder.
That's fine. But Wilkinson has no interest in committing himself to a contract with us either. He turned us down. But we're playing him. As much as people are trying to make out it's different, it really isn't.
Did you watch yesterday's game. I saw one player committed to playing for barnsley and kicke about a lot for his troubles. I also didn't see one who wants away. Seems like your on a one man crusade to prove Wilkinson isn't 'committed' 'has no interest' 'turned us down' 'is no different to Holgate'. All I see is a player who wants to play in our shirt and win games.
I'm afraid you're completely wrong about my motives. I didn't go the other day no. I've seen Holgate play numerous times though. Can't remember ever seeing a more committed player.
Apart from the time he declares he won't sign a contract and wants to leave.... Maybe? the reason I asked if you went was that Wilkinson looked as comitted as any player in the game. Also we saw Williams and JOS and Pearson all come to play despite having clear aspirations and not signing for us last season.
Whatever has happened previous must be dropped and we need to get behind the lad, I went yesterday and I can 100% back him up because even for a pre season game you could see he wanted to be here and got stuck in. Even got a few knocks for his troubles, got up shook them off and still showed 100%! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Anyone who went yesterday can surely say that wilkinson is committed regardless of what's gone off, yes I know it was a pre season game but he played like he wanted to be here and win the fans over! Got a few knocks for his troubles and still got up and gave 100%! The few who are still on his back must drop it and get behind the lad for the time he's with us! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nobody should have a problem with him wanting to leave us for the premiership payday. The problem is if he showed loyalty by signing a new contract with us (like Stones, Bree etc did) he could leave the very same day for Villa if he wanted to but we'd get a better fee for him.
Like Wilkinson you mean? You're still using the same argument against one player and ignoring it in another. I have never questioned Wilkinson's commitment on the pitch. I've never seen him play. I'm questioning his commitment to our club as he wouldn't sign the contract, just like Holgate, who you're happy to point the finger at, as the above post proves. I'm aware that loan players can be fully committed to the cause. Ramage was more committed than most permanent signings we've ever had. But so can players who see their future elsewhere because they can earn more money. Dozens and dozens of players let their contracts run down so they can have their pick of clubs in the summer. They don't have a long term commitment to their current club, but they play their hearts out anyway. Wilkinson has a good wage and won't relinquish it. Holgate doesn't but wants one. Neither would sign the contract we offered. It's exactly the same. I'm treating them both the same, you're treating them differently.
