I think a million is OK as long as the deal includes the appropriate add-ons. If it really is closer to 500k, I'm inclined to think that Mansford has no idea what he's doing.

£1m (plus add ons) for Holgate would represent a good deal in my opinion.

I don't mind 1 million but, at least get the money up front. All of it, not this 500k ******** riding to 1 million, we get a million now we should be brining our main targets

We'll never find out what the fee is. Well, mebbi when the next CEO comes in and blames the last one, for the position he finds us in..

Especially if it isn't clearly reinvested in the team, a la Shipperley fee. I know that the situation was pretty different, but the way 750k was swept under the carpet when we'd been told that it would be used "to buy someone even better" still riles nearly 15 years later.

It'll not be invested in the team, people don't realise just how inflated players wages are even at this level, so they'll refuse to believe it's been swallowed up on 4/5 players on free transfers, so may as well just say paddys had

With all due respect, I never heard such tosh in all my life.

Here admittedly, is a promising young lad. He won't sign a new contract, so at best he's out the door in 12 months' time. He can't therefore be part of what LeeJay is building for the longer term. He isn't yet the finished article, so it's not like he will make the critical difference to our season. We now have cover at centre back with the players Lee has brought in. In those circumstances, anything we get for the lad is probably worth taking, given he apparently doesn't want to stay. 500K would not be stunning, but it would be something. £1M would represent quite a reasonable fee in my books.

This isn't John Stones we're talking about (whatever Mason himself thinks). It's quite possible he will sink without trace at Villa, or wherever. His physique is not the strongest, for a start. So if Ben gets the £1M, he will have done alright to my mind, and we can use the money to acquire those who are prepared to commit to our club.

It will be 500k to 1m. There will be add ons no doubt. It will happen. It will be disclosed. Mansford will still be here. People will still moan about everything the club does or doesn't do. But at the end of the day the world will still turn and if the current trend continues, we'll continue to bring some decent youngsters through.

I'm well aware of players' wages at this level, believe me. If any fees received go on paying the wages of free transfers who make a positive impact, I don't think anyone will be complaining. If it's sp unked on overpaid loans as usual, that's when the rumpus will start, and rightly so.

Whilst very few people here know the very complicated ins and outs of how transfers, contracts, agents' fees etc operate, most people can work at least the approximate market value of certain players, just by looking at the fees received by clubs at our level for players of a comparable age, position, generally agreed ability etc. Based on that, my assessment is that at face value Holgate is worth around a million quid on today's vastly inflated market. However, there may well be some other factors which I have no knowledge of, which will push any fee received up or down.

I might agree, but he goes on walks with the fans and buys people a beer, it doesn`t matter that he is a soundbite specialist !

What about Cryne? Mansford is only the puppet who has the top dog Patrick pulling his strings. You reckon the boss would sell someone if he wasn't happy about it? You think Mansford has way too much power. It's the same in any profession. You get it in World Wrestling Entertainment with Triple H or the creative department getting bashed by fans for poor storylines yet it's the guy at the top Vince Mcmahon that everything has to go through and nothing would be done that he's not happy about.

Ben Mansford: Patrick i've accepted a million pound bid for Mason Holgate.

Patrick Cryne: OK i'll leave you to it.

    It doesn't go like that.
