No offence meant to Mike here. But how did they manage to flog us a 25 year old with a poor fitness record and no football league experience for £25,000. Yet we cant get a penny out of an in contract Jennings, Turnbull or Lalkovic.

2 of them went to the league above so they must have been worth something. In fact we even paid Jennings to leave us.

Sort it out Ben for f*ck sake.

 

They're absolutely shiting themselves over SCMP so they're paying money to get the wage bill down, because they're idiots thinking that the idle threats of fines and point deductions are true. It's costing us money to stay in line with rules every other clubs just ignore, clubs run by bellends

 

Just like the UK and the EU, where France ignores rules they don't like.

I would imagine it's the opposite and we allowed them to leave on frees so we didn't have to pay them up. They will then have had a signing on fee from the incoming club. If we'd have held out for a fee the buying club would have reduced the signing on fees and the player would have demanded paying off, so any money we had coming in by way of fee would have gone straight to the player, with the additional headache of tax and all that. Or something like that.

 

I agree, I think the free deals meant we got out of the contract. Re: Signing on fees, I didn't know they still existed in modern contracts.

 

I was basing this on what happened with fatty Jennings. Didn't we pay his contact up? I doubt that would have stopped him from getting a signing on fee at Franchise FC.

 

If we couldn't get rid of Lalkovic and Turnbull other than for frees, it would be stupid to keep them somewhere where they wouldn't play, when we could get them off the wage bill for free. The savings over the year as opposed to just letting their contracts run down could be pretty big:

Let's say, for argument's sake, Lalkovic was on £2k per week and Turnbull on £3k per week (these are just guesses):
They both had around 50 weeks left on their contracts, so we'd save:
Lalkovic: 2000 x 50 = £100000
Turnbull: 3000 x 50 = £150000

So that's a quarter of a million saved, even though we couldn't get fees, but might not have been able to do so. So it's not as stupid as it sounds to get rid of them for free

 

The thing is though Ben has already said that the club generates one of the leagues highest revenue from fans so we shouldn't be crawling around with a wage bill of 50 quid and 2 players

 

Agree. Also wouldn't surprise me if we had to pay Lalkovic to leave, which, if we don't want him, is still a saving.

Different situation with him, in that nobody came to take him off our hands. If MK Dons had approached us we may have got away without paying him up, but they were smart and waited till we got fed up and got shut.

Still, wouldn't surprise me if the payments we agreed to make to him weren't linked in some way to him getting another job though. We may have agreed to pay him x immediately and then further payments of y at intervals, unless he found himself another job on the same money. I'd hope they would have done something like that anyway, as otherwise every player will be asking to be paid off and sorting their next move out on the sly. Say Bailey is approached by a club, all he'd have to do is tip them the wink that they can get him for free (with a bumped up signing on fee of course) and then approach BFC suggesting they pay him up. So he gets a nice wedge from us and then walks into another club the next day. I would have thought BM is too savvy to let something like that happen.

 

Pretty simple in my mind.

We look desperate to "sell", player doesn't want to leave, "buying" club offer less wages than what he's on... we cave and pay up some or all of contract.

Jennings, Lalkovic, Turnbull... how much have we thrown away there, and Bailey likely to follow too in the same fashion.

Repeat to fade. Couple that with failing to get the real value for players with potential and ability, paying huge compensation for managers every year as well as back room staff and players the next regime don't fancy without a fair crack of the whip and that's a huge amount of money frittered.

No wonder PC has to keep subsidising the club. It's effectively the cost of incompetent planning and poor decision making year upon year.

 

We won't have thrown anything away with Turnbull or Lalkovic. They moved to another club on a different contract, end of

 

Just been talking to a member of the family who is a pro, and he has just been explaining something about players contracts and transfers that has left a sour taste in my mouth.

Apparently even if we would have got fees for them, the players would still be legally entitled to the remainder of their contract paying up(unless they officially put in a transfer request, in which case they would forfeit any moneys owed), even if they have signed a contract with another club.

He says that when a club accept and offer, and the player has signed a contract with said club, then The player would enter into negotiations with the club over how much of the contact they will receive(he quoted between 20 and 25%, but the more prolific journeyman will use his experience of these negotiations to get more).

That is why players will do everything they can to force a move without using a written transfer request, so they can get a nice signing on fee, a lucrative weekly wage and a lump sum payment off their previous employers.

 

Totally different situations. Phenix was an important part of Telford's team, so they obviously looked to recoup as much as they could to compensate/bring in a replacement. Lalkovic was surplus to requirements, and unlikely to feature much. Turnbull was going to be number two to Davies, and an expensive number two at that, for League One. Jennings was about three stone overweight for a normal job, never mind a professional athlete. Getting rid of all three will have freed up their salaries, with all of them having a year left on their contracts.

Admittedly, if we paid Jennings up, then I'd be a bit disappointed, especially considering that he ended up at MK Dons. Maybe he knew about the potential deal and was happy to leave for next to nothing paying up. Who knows, but to compare the other two leaving, to what Telford received for Phenix is just being f*cking negative.

 

Where is Phenix? Has he been locked in the Phil Gridelet cupboard?
