Bobby hassell is a better defensive midfielder than Ben Pearson and if we are going to have a short term loanee in that role it should be Bobby. And that's nowt to do with sentiment, he looked head and shoulders above Pearson in the same role.
I'd not necessarily agree with your main point but Bobby did look like he may still be of use at this level. If LJ wants to bring an experienced head in he could do worse than Bobster.
Don't get me wrong, Pearson didn't look bad today or anything, I just think Bobby looked a lot better than him. I was going to say bring bobby in to play alongside him but then I realised that when hourihane is fit or we get a winger in then I don't think there is room in midfield for two of them.
lets resign Dyer while were at it, because Winnall is *****. Also get Joe Joyce back because we need a full back. Jeez!!!
Like how the 'you can't judge players in friendlies' logic seems to be out of the window today, and we want the promotion squad back. With the exception of Antony Kay, they're all playing at a lower level, or not playing at all for a reason.
Plenty have been saying we've signed Pearson because Scowen isn't a defensive midfielder. That's football opinions for you.
Mmm - quite clearly the best tackler we have - breaks up play really well so why pay him as a defensive midfielder :-/ love Scowen - great player but Pearson is by far the more creative of the two - Scowen should be played to allow Pearson and Hourihane to get forward
I thought Bobby still looked good enough today, not perhaps at 35 to be a regular, but we've a thin squad that are going to be even thinner when injuries suspensions kick in, but he can cover any of those defensive positions, and the young lads can learn a lot from him. It's not an opinion based on sentiment, purely that he looked competent enough to do us a job.
Bobby didn't look out of place by any stretch but mostly played attacking midfield... You can't judge on pre season games... I thought Devaney and Nards were the stand out players, and if we went on friendly performances Reece Brown vs Hull would take some beating. Shame he couldn't take that form into league games
Hassell has nothing to prove. Comfortable today even without kicking a ball in six weeks. As for Pearson, the lad dunt look attacking or defensive midfield to me. Runs about a lot, great energy. But yet to see one thing in his game that makes me agree "arrr, that's why he's at Man U". Scowen's the better player in every department.
