Cyclists on the A1

Stupid ****ers causing chaos on the way back from the game. Yes I know it's their lawful right because it's an A road, but they were causing chaos and they risk their bloody lives. Low and behold as we continually passed one after the next saying 'there's going to be an accident' - on the opposite carriage way there was a cyclist down in a serious way with police and ambulance in attendance.

I work in Cambridgeshire and the A14 is a pretty lethal stretch of road too - but not enough to put off the new lycra clad craze of kamikazi cyclists. A11 just as bad.

Nob head territory.

 

I had no idea you were allowed to cycle on the A1. I suppose when you think about it it isn't a motorway but common sense says that surely you shouldn't be on there on a bike

 

Some of them (not all) are a bloody nuisance and a danger to themselves and other road users. What would possess them to cycle on the A1 with cars and other vehicles travelling at 60mph. Unbelievable.

 

we came home from hull a couple of months back and pushbikes were actually having a time trial on the dual carriageway (the one that leads to the m62),cars doing 60odd mile an hour and push bike weaving about the place..right or no right feckin cars hurt if they hit you,those pillocks have no thought for themselves never mind anyone else.There were dozens of them and even more watching,when we got home we found out it was a big event because bradley wiggins was racing.
they shouldnt be allowed to race on public roads imo.

They're a fckng menace and so SO arrogant, I live on a busy road so get my fair share of angst from other drivers when I pull out of my drive in peak times, but nothing compared to the vociferous lycra wearing Wiggins wannabe c.nts. If they've to touch their brakes when their doing 30mph they look at you like you've touched their mum's arse.

I agree with you that cyclists should not be allowed on the major roads, but I also think all roads should be built with a safe, off-road cyclepath/footpath.

I was sat at lights a couple of weeks back waiting for the green so I could pull out onto Skipton Road in Harrogate (a very busy road). The lights on Skippy Rd went to red, mine to green so I pulled onto the road but as there was a build up of traffic still I had to kind of sweep around and position myself up against the kerb. As I got there a cyclist came through the red light and started giving me chew for not leaving him enough room to get past. "****in cheers, bikes are vehicles too you know, have some consideration" (paraphrasing). My reply "if you're a vehicle then you should have stopped at the red lights you ****in numpty" (not paraphrasing). Anyway I carried on my journey and about a mile down the road in Starbeck lo and behold the same numpty was rattling down the path, gave him some right stick out of the window.

I'm continually having poor experiences of cyclists. Sorry if you find it boring, I find it concerning.

 

To be honest cyclists don't bother me at all & I never seem to come across these knobheads that every now & then I see people post about on Facebook.

I don't know if it's because I cycle myself & understand what they're going to do or not.

I think a lot of its down to the car driver, I've got a Mrs that makes a big deal out of having to get round a push bike, horse, etc but then again there's no doubt there's a lot of newbie cyclists since the country got Wiggins fever

 

They ignore them though. I work in Manvers, there's a cycle path all the way along, but they insist upon going down the road because they think they're Bradley ****ing Wiggins.

 

I'd not say ban them but they've got to become a part of the road users rather than thinking they have a right to do what they want because they're inspired, and getting fit and non polluting.

And they can cause accidents.

 

I live close to junction 28 of the M62. It has 4 dual carriageways onto it the motorway slip roads and a road through the middle of the island. Around the roundabout there are pedestrian/cycle paths and instructions for cyclists how to negotiate the roundabout which means using the crossing lights at each junction. You find the casual cyclists using this quite well however it's like what's pointed out on here, it's these Lycra clad lot that think it's below them to use it and cause mayhem trying to ride the road.

 

You can't assume that all cyclists are as informed as you though when you jump to their defence each time someone mentions an incident.

I accept there are poor car drivers too.

 

How much road tax do you pay for a push bike ?

Alternatively, A cyclist was slowing down the people that actually pay for the roads that they're on so much that someone had to overtake them, and nearly had an accident.

I deal with it all the time, cyclists going 10MPH around windy roads that go on for about 2 miles, that you have to go around them, or you're going to be late.

Make the cyclists pay to ride on the road, and take a test, hopefully that will put enough off and make the ones that still do it more educated.
