Hoping Quigg can put on a bit of a performance. Never really impressed me in his performances. It'd be amazing for Crolla to win after what he's endured recently.
Gonzales only won 2 rounds I think, the first he won 10-7 and the 9th or 10th, A few close rounds , but Frampton was the better boxer, but he needs to move his head a bit more.
Shocking decision. Like many pundits have said, I thought he'd won even without the point deductions.
Sounds like the scores may have been announced wrong and it should have been 113-113, 113-113, 116-111. Still means a majority draw, but a bit less crazy than one of the judges claiming Perez had won the bout. Hopefully he'll get another shot, and go one better.
Didn't think Crolla got robbed at all. Personally I think he just edged it but there were lots of close rounds & I can't moan at a draw. Would've been a lovely story if he won though. A couple of things baffle me though..... We've got Scott Quigg pretending to be a world champ when he's never fought for a world title or held one, the worst commentator in sport Nick Halling on the mic & we've got a British referee refereeing a world title fight between a Brit & a Colombian, how ridiculous is that? I'm not saying the points taken off weren't deserved but it doesn't half leave them open to accusations of corruption. Surely the ref should be neutral?
It was a close fight but I honestly thought he'd done enough, the 2 pts deducted should have nailed it for him, and they were definitely deserved (it seemed Perez was accepting of the low blow assessment from the ref).
I was at the fight. Cracking atmosphere Quigg was impressive and explosive after a really poor first round. However, let's not pretend Martinez was a high level opponent. Definitely a fighter on the slide who'll now vanish in to obscurity. For me, he still needs that really good win to prove he's world class. Jury still out for me. Interesting that Frampton was knocked down twice, but he was never in trouble or hurt, just flash knockdowns. Crolla was superb. But at the end of the 12th round I thought about the fight with my head rather than my heart and had a feeling he wouldn't get the decision. He was busy, but from my seat it looked like Perez was landing the cleaner punches. I'd need to watch it back, but I remember a four round spell where I didn't have him winning a round. Saying that, the point deductions could probably have swung it in his favour. Could have gone either way, but I'm not buying in to the shouts of robbery/disgrace as that was a really tough fight to score, and when you take the cheers of the crowd and the no doubt biased commentary away, I bet it looked very different. Someone mentioned it being a British referee for a world title fight with a British fighter. Americans always fight for world titles with American referees. Not an issue at all.
Re: I was at the fight. Cracking atmosphere I don't think anyone is pretending Martinez was top quality are they? I said I expected Quigg to win, thought it might go a bit longer though, especially after the 1st round. Crolla should at least get a rematch. It was an excellent performance from him. For me it was a very close fight but those 2pts deducted should have been enough to nick it.
Re: I was at the fight. Cracking atmosphere I was talking about the boxing public in general mate rather than you personally. Was a general response/comment rather than picking up on anything you might have said. Twitter went in to overdrive about Quigg last night as if he'd just knocked out some top, top fighter. Crolla will get the rematch, and you're right he definitely deserves it. He fought above himself last night though, so I just wonder if he can do that again. He was superb.
