Lyth needs to perform and looks like Yorks will win their current match so ok for Ballance to come back into our squad if he is out of form

    Makes sense.

Lyth has been a bit unlucky really in that he's got out to some really good deliveries so unfair to drop him and who on earth could open? Hales? Maybe Bell-Drummond at Somerset who looks quite decent.

Ballance has looked terrible and never looked like scoring many. Bell has quality and just going through a bit of a run but we know he can get big runs.

Makes a nice change for them to pick someone in form rather than simply taking them on tour never to play and get out of nick

Not disagreeing that he has looked dodgy, but Ballance has a test average of 47.76 and scored 3 times as many as Bell in the last test (both scored the same in the 1st test). It can't have been much between the two of them.

I like the lad... just watching him though is painful and it doesn't half give a boost to the bowler to see him so nervous at the other end.

Think another right hander up top is probably a factor too rather than 3 left handers.
