You're way off. Much more to all this than meets our unknowing eyes. But I won't join in on this LJ witch-hunt that's gathering momentum on here lately.
I'm suggesting threads like these, where folk are either slating Mason or knocking LJ, are pointless. None of us know what's happening. I'm not sure I even want to know. As I said on the subject a week ago, I just want it all concluded asap so we can move on and focus on the stuff that matters, that we do see - the football.
Prepared to bet it's neither. Club offered what they think he was worth/could afford. Holgate thought he was worth more. Happens every day. Only problem I have with the whole situation is that we then froze Holgate out, which achieves nothing for anyone, whichever way you spin it.
But even then, we have no idea what conversations have taken place. For example, if Holgate has point blank told Johnson he will never play for Barnsley again he wouldn't be the first player to do so. Larry May springs to mind. Or Holgate might have been creating an atmosphere that was unsettling other players. We just don't know. Either way, it's not ideal that one of our best young players is training firstly with the kids and then with another club, so hopefully whatever is the problem gets sorted out soon. Whilst a million quid would be nice, I'd much rather him sign a new contract and stay with the club, because whilst it's inevitable for a club in our position, it's depressing seeing our best players leave at the first opportunity.
If he isn't wanted by Man Utd, which I think is more likely, then it could be the best outcome for all concerned. He comes back, signs a new deal, gets his head down and shows us what a good player he is. By September all this nonsense will be forgotten.
On the contrary mate, the info you shared was a good read. I just take it with a pinch of salt based on the fact that Ben's job is to spin, and doing it through someone else's voice is an easy 'out' compared to putting information directly in the public domain.
all conjecture innit. the only truth i know, is that ben objected to mason asking for a thousand pound a week. what i don't know is if that was in total, or extra. if it was the former, you can't blame the lad for having is head turned. there are people on this thread who earn more than that..
Ben stated that they'd offered him "terms on par with what we offered John Stones". Think that'd be more than a grand. A grand a week is what Jacob and Vaz were on in 2011-12.
you'd think so. like i say, dunno if he meant a grand in total, or a grand extra...or where those demands actually ended up, in terms of an offer
