Are the benefits in other European countries nowhere near as good as ours then?

The thing is Jimmy, people like me who have worked hard all their life (served my country for 24 years) done overtime to pay for holidays and end up paying more tax, more VAT, fuel increases etc, realise that a lot of this money the government need to generate is to cover the costs of these people (some needy some not) unfortunately we only get to hear about people playing the system and then we get p1ssed off and think they're all at it. We are only a small country, we can't just keep taking people in. Asylum should be sought in the first safe country you come to and whether you like it or not, they don't stop in France or Spain, because they get nothing. Because i have worked and saved, i am also entitled to nothing should i loose my job. I'm not lacking compassion, i'm just very frustrated.

I'm not unsympathetic to that view myself. People are dying though. Kids are dying. I'm currently tutoring a guy in English and Maths from Iran who fled following religious perscution and the murder of his immediately family. A physicist at home. Currently working in a pizza shop having to do GCSE maths and Science. Will be a fantastic addition to our country. Contrast this with some of the Doley scrotes drinking cheap cider outside of Heron Foods.

You can say I want to stop immigration and believe our country is full without wishing people dead. I too think asylum should be sought in the first country possible. The fact that the system is not working is not the fault of the immigrants it's the fault of Europe not having a united policy and some countries being only too happy to pass the problem on.

The benefits thing you'd be entitled to JSA Contribution based regardless of savings.

I find it strange that you have to tutor GCSE maths and science to a physicist.

His qualifications are meaningless in this country. Maths he's better than me but struggles with English on occasion so I help him out with that. English because he know he needs to learn the language and knows the importance of qualification in the area to show prospective employers. He's also having to do GCSE Science despite having a degree in physics from Tehran uni so he can access further ed later.

I'm with you. I think the key thing, is sorting the genuine from the scroungers. Where do you start, probably Beech street (picked at random)

I'm probably being daft but if he is better at maths than you and presumably **** hot at science too then what are you actually teaching him? I understand he'd be having English lessons from an Iranian to English translator but I'm a bit lost on a physicist needing GCSE help in maths and science.

Also do you know the reason he came to England and not a closer country? We rarely hear the real reasons front the asylum seekers themselves.

Re: Dover / Calais - awash with illegals trying to get in Uk....what to do to stop em

It's part of a support project I'm involved in though not as much as I would like. He has had all the organisational support he is entitled to. His English for basic life is just about adequate he can work in a pizza shop get pretty much by. When it comes to sitting in a classroom he sometimes loses things in the translation so we go over stuff that he would know how to do if he understood how to do it if you know what I mean. He can only attend part time courses in the evenings so the tutors don't particularly have time for explaining things to individuals. Though his exams are done now so I don't know if I will be supporting him next year as he goes onto more complex stuff though we still meet up weekly. Possibly English as its where my qualifications lie.

We also go over a lot of idioms and slang and everyday speech which he misses out on. He's very committed to contributing to the country that's helped him out and wants to move forwards to doing the things he loves as quickly as possible. The availability of support for people like him is not as great as we would like to think. He's the 5th person I've worked with. 2 dropped out when they thought the obstacles were too great.

I'd have to ask how he felt before talking about his individual situation re the asylum issue.

Re: Dover / Calais - awash with illegals trying to get in Uk....what to do to stop em

If you get the chance could you ask him if he minds you talking about it? I'd love to hear the reasons behind 'choosing' the UK because I'm convinced it isn't all about the benefits.

As for his coaching would it be fair today then that while officially youve been teaching hi maths and science in reality it has been English you have been teaching him? English focused in the areas needed for maths and science but essentially still English. It sounds like a very noble cause you're involved with as to be honest he could quite easily just stay working in the pizza place forever and get by as you say but to put the effort in to try to get qualified shows a real desire to be the best you can be and helping people to do that is brilliant
