Is it not the case that LJ is finding it difficult to build a team to include Hourihane? Maybe he has decided that he doesn't want to? Yet needs to let everyone down slowly. He has been given many a chance to praise him, yet he more or less largely likes to describe him as a dead ball specialist. Compared him to a American football placekicker, which by implication means that when the team action starts, CH would be better off the field. LJ says CH can't tackle – his body position is wrong etc. He says that he finds it hard to play an effective system with CH accommodated. Perhaps LJ wishes someone would come and make a decent offer for him. Though LJ will find it difficult to justify offloading our goals and assists hero, our player of the year, the darling of many on this forum. Despite CH being mediocre for at least half the season. For whatever reason. Not sure that LJ can afford to dilly dally on this matter. He may have a masterplan to optimise the performance of all his signings. With CH at the heart of it. But if he doesn't believe the best will come from a team including CH, he's better letting everyone down now rather than later. And I reckon the silent majority could live with that. Till we lose a few...
What will be will be but at the end of next season we will have a better idea as to how good Hourinane really is. The lad has potential undoubtedly but there is significant room for improvement . Hopefully this season we will witness another Oakwell legend in the making. I wish him all the best!
LJ is absolutely spot on on just about everything he's said about Hourihane Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He also keeps saying how much he'd love a right footed Hourinane. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
I was wondering the same. Well, as Hourihane hasn't played pre-season LJ can certainly be justified in going without him on the first day, and if we start winning, then who knows... In reality, its a long old season and I would imagine that everyone will get a go in that midfield and whichever combination succeeds the fans will be happy with it.
LJ rates CH very highly and what he can offer the team, but admits he can't defend and therefore can't play centrally in a 442. He says if he could defend he'd be playing in the Premier League. Dunno how I feel about this one, will be interesting to see how LJ fits him into the team and what formation he goes for...
A fully fit Conor Hourihane waltzes into this side, and every other side in the division. I look forward to seeing him in a reds shirt again asap.
I wonder what "can't defend" means. I understand "can't be bothered" or "can't tackle" or "isn't mobile" or "gets caught out of position". But in midfield - "can't defend"? Anyway, add "can't defend" to my original post, and it's more corroboration! I want CH to stay and blast us out of this division btw
He can't defend, but neither could the likes of Pearson, Scowen, Bailey, Berry etc contribute directly to nearly 30 goals last season. I'm more than happy with his poor defensive qualities if his offensive qualities shine as bright as they did last term. Of course, were he to this season struggle to create or score, then I'd obviously understand the gripes about his defensive game.
He's our star player and it's upto the head coach to coach him into being a better player instead of talking about him like he's an hinderence to the team all the time.
No prejudice here just my opinion that he is far from being our best player. I have my own opinions on players unlike most of the sheep on here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Clean slate for me this year. I'll judge him and everybody else on this season. Hope he proves me wrong.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I suppose I'll have to take your word for the prejudice bit. But if being a 'sheep' means trying to take a balanced view rather than what just appears to be blind hatred I'll gladly say baaa...
