If you don't like running, then how about just walking? Traveling on foot will burn ~10 calories per mile per stone of body weight. 1lb of body fat is the equivalent of 3400 calories, so at your weight, walking ~35miles per week will burn 1lb of body fat per week. 5 miles per day may sound like a lot, but you could easily do 2miles each morning, 2 at lunch and another 2 in the evening and will soon see the benefits. I lost about 3-4 stone within 6 months of getting a dog and walking it every day.

Running is about the same rate per mile as walking, but usually you do it faster. Cycling burns calories at about 1/3 the rate of walking/running, not sure about swimming.

For exercises, have a look at exrx.net. Plenty of exercises for each muscle group and many have videos showing you how to do it. This should give you some variety if you are like me and find the gym boring.

Don't run - its bad for you, seriously - women or men.

You can get all the Cardio from intense weight training with smaller gaps between sets, if you are a member of a gym, do they do classes? If so, check if they do "Body Pump" this is a worldwide fitness routine which most gyms have which uses high rep, low weight routines in a one hour class, they are great for toning up and losing weight.

I would suggest trying to find the insanity training on the internet. It's a bit like a up to date version of Mr motivator but there's some great exercises to do and it's tough

Also if you have a smartphone there's some good apps to use where it gives tips on different exercises for each part of the body. Also things like the calorie counter is a real help which does exactly what it says on the tin down to even what brand you use

I would recommend you start following this guy on instagram and FB

HIIT and healthy food is the best method for what you want to do.

HIIT is very hard work and you will feel sick after doing it, but it does work and makes you feel great after the initial shock.

Also if you enjoy sports and are coordinated I would say take up squash - incredibly good for you.

Thanks! Walking sounds like something I could manage, although not 5 miles a day. 2 miles at lunchtime - you're having a laugh, I barely have time to eat lunch after supervising naughty kids and setting up/clearing away. Of course, I have no excuses now it is the holidays ;) I'm definitely going to aim for 3 miles a day which sounds realistic and something I would stick to. I can always up it once I get into a routine.

I would say that describes me pretty well so that's definitely something I could look in to.

    Thanks for your help!

Don't even consider going to a gym. I do , and constantly see people like yourself wasting their time and money.Take a brisk walk every day for about half an hour then build up to an hour. Don't eat **** and your half stone will be gone in about 10 days. Hope this helps, and it's completely free.
