One solution to the problem is to only police our side of the tunnel in much greater numbers ensuring that people are not slipping through the net rather than using our national resources policing things in Calais. Anybody sneaky little devils caught, we just do the humane thing and say hard luck you have been dobbied chap, no vacancies thank you. Give em a goody bag with a British sourced goods as a gesture of goodwill along with a nice T-Shirt, say tarra and put them on a ships straight back to Calais immediately with a grand old send off with fish and chips using the fish our fisherman normally have to discard due to stupid European fishing quota rules. Then instead of punishing British lorry drivers who get hit with ridiculous fines if a someone sneaks into their cargo etc, simply introduce an over inflated monetary charge eg £250K for each migrant sent back. Charge this via Europe to the French government for failures within their border policing and our associated costs including the goody bag, and the wonderful meal and I've been to Britain and all I got was this stupid t-shirt... I think the French will soon start to take notice... If they don't pay, tell Germany to tell em they have to.. Simples they never refuse Germany... We can then use the money collected from this process to invest in our national infrastructure and in the process watching our British produce sales go through the roof, making everyone happy except the French which I can live with. What could possible go wrong!
or just turn off the benefits they are all coming for. Sick of this country just doling out cash to all and sundry while we work our arses off and get taxed to high heaven to pay them!
Send the yank dentist with his bow & arrows over to Calais and charge him £30k for every one he pins to a wall
or just turn off the benefits they are all coming for. Sick of this country just doling out cash to all and sundry while we work our arses off and get taxed to high heaven to pay them! What benefits are those then
You are aware that asylum seekers aren't actually entitled to benefits I take it? http://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN01909/SN01909.pdf
No matter how many times it's pointed out people still mention it. Always someone who believes it's so.
So they come here and live off fresh air? Don't think so, when they're literally killing themselves to get here.
Those who cut through the wire fences in Calais might think differently if there were 10000 volts going through them.
They are not entitled to welfare benefits. Fact. Did you read the paper linked above? They do get support. As they do in all EU countries.
So what do they do once they find this out ? Beg, rob, turn our country into a bigger shithole than it is now.
Maybe but I was asking re benefits which they don't get, what happens after that is anyones guess, if they are economic migrants and not asylum seekers then send them home
"Send them home" - often they have no ID on them so who's to say where 'home' is? And if we can establish where 'home' is who covers the bill for all this travel? And how do we stop them trying again?
But as soon as they set foot in the UK they can claim asylum. That's what they want. Rather than claiming asylum in France or any of the other EU countries they've got to go through to get here there want to set foot in this country because they feel they will be better off. The only way we can prevent this is by knocking them back before they arrive.
Listening to the news on the radio today. The top two stories were someone trying to buy 700 doses of Ricin, followed by about 1,400 people trying to get into the Channel Tunnel. Simply get hold of the ricin, and put 700 lethal doses in an envelope and have another 700 envelopes with tickets offering free passage into the UK. Let them pick an envelope on the understanding that they have a 50% chance of a slow death through poisoning. Worst case, we half the number trying to get into the country
