Club Statement - More from the official site... 04-08-2015 12:12 PM <a href="http://wall.barnsleyfc.co.uk/Event/Barnsley"></a>
Club statement: PUBLISHED 11:12 4th August 2015 On Saturday during the Club’s pre-season friendly with Huddersfield Town at Oakwell, an individual entered the playing area approximately ten minutes into the second half. This individual was apprehended by Club Stewards and was handed to South Yorkshire Police for arrest. The Club’s security team have subsequently analysed CCTV footage from Saturday and several individuals who we believe assisted in the pitch incursion have been identified. All individuals in question will face a Club ban - for what could be up to five years - and will also be unable to buy tickets via the Club Box Office for any away fixture. The Club will also ensure that the names of any individual who receives a ban from Oakwell will also be circulated to all Football League clubs and the relevant Police Forces to refuse entry at away games. Barnsley FC is a family Club and the overwhelming majority of fans support the Club superbly. Barnsley FC will not tolerate any type of antisocial or unacceptable behaviour and will ensure that anyone who thinks they can use the Football Club as a vehicle for antisocial behaviour will face the severest punishment available. The actions of a small minority, if allowed to continue, will no doubt lead to the Club facing fines and potential FA sanctions which will impact on everyone associated with our Club. The implications of this minority’s behaviour has already been felt this season with the away ticket allocation significantly reduced for this Saturday’s season opener at Chesterfield. Barnsley FC would, therefore, ask that all genuine supporters assist us where possible to eradicate the type of behaviour witnessed on Saturday. This can be done by either contacting the Club with information or bringing information to Stewards on matchdays. Our Security team will follow up all information given and this will be treated in the strictest of confidence. Thank you for your cooperation and support. Ran about with a rubber ring on Not aggressive just stupid Not sure how you can aid someone running on the pitch other than giving him a leg up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not exactly a hard barrier to get over, is it? Maybe he was so drunk that he needed picked up and pushing over the two foot wall Either way, good on the club for taking a tough stance on this kind of stupidity. It's not endangering anyone but it's not allowed, so just don't do it. It really is that simple.
5 year ban for running on the pitch with a rubber ring !! Bit over the top if you ask me ..... Or maybe he was found with a bottle top in his pocket !!
Everyone knows its illegal to go on the pitch and this idiot did it to show off in front of his mates.
The lads done for aiding him, chipped in to give him the money to run onto the pitch allegedly. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
In the past it would have been a slap on the hand, but with whats been happening last season the club have to be tougher, the police will know about this and no matter how daft it was, it's another 'incident' on our ever going list of anti social activity in their eyes. If the club don't act then its not going to look good, not to mention if this kid got off lightly then its only more tempting for the next opportunist, all it would take is a small group to run on and we'll be fined/get less tickets for away games/face higher police fees.
I really do understand the need to discourage people from going on the pitch I would hazard a guess that if that bloke ends up before a magistrate he'll get a small fine and told not to offend people with rubber rings in future . Did SYP or the club actually produce any real evidence of BFC fans being more 'anti-social' than other supporters ?
The kid who did it is an idiot. That's not in question. However there was very few stewards on duty saturday which would appear to have played its part. As for the 'assistant s' ... there isnt really a lot thatll stand up before the beak and hold water.
