From the side that lost to Crawley first game last season. In fact going back and looking at that side it was abysmal. Brown was terrible. Dudgeon I didn't rate. Bailey and Berry both playing out of position. Jennings was appalling. Hourihane we found out was incapable of playing in a midfield 2. And Rose and Winnall upfront just looks weak. The less said about our bench the better. -------------Davies------------ Brown--Cranie--Nyatanga--Dudgeon ---------------Bailey----------------- Berry-------Hourihane-----------Jennings -----------Winnall--Rose------------------ Subs Dibble Treacy Digby Mvoto Abbott Boakye-Yiadom Bree Likely line up saturday -------------------Davies-------------------- -------Mawson--Roberts--Nyatanga-------- Holgate--------------------------------Smith -----------------Pearson---------------------- -------Scowen-------------Crowley-------------- --------------Winnall--Wilkinson---------- Subs Townsend Bree Digby Hourihane Rothwell Watkins Maris
First team is about on par. Strength in depth much less. Stupid reliance on loans much worse. Also implies Holgate will still be here.
Rewind a season before that and I think we can all feel happy about the direction of the club.. Steele Cranie Wiseman Mvoto Kennedy Mellis Dawson Perkins Golbourne Dagnall O Grady
Considering Davies, Bree, Holgate, Smith, Pearson and Rothwell (brief spell at Blackpool) were all untried young players last season, we should be feeling relatively excited about the season ahead. I'm sure there will be testing times ahead and our lack of 'experience' will go against us but the potential style of play we will witness should make for good viewing.
Out of that lot I'd still be happy to have Steele, O'Grady, Golbourne, Cranie, Dawson and Perkins (at that age) in League One. Having them in the Championship was the problem.
Yes that's a fair point, like you say the standard of the division was too much for the team / club. Purely basing it on the eleven / squad going into the new season I feel happier than the previous two years.
Yes it was mate - that was the 11 that started the 4 nil defeat against Wigan. The one thing I will say about this team / squad it looks capable of playing the style of football Johnson has spoke about. With Flickers and Wilson's, both were unbalanced and lacking identity.
