Allegedly been training with the kids all summer, has rarely featured in any proper pre-season games and then ends up involved today. We then wonder why he goes and drops a clanger for their third goal. If he isn't good enough then he shouldn't be anywhere near the squad for our first game of the season Worrying how much depth we lack in this squad. Wish we'd sign some proper footballers.
Stood next to his mum and dad at the Frickley game. Overheard his dad saying that he doesn't think Johnson rates him and won't give him a chance, whereas Wilson had a lot of time for him. They seemed to expect that he'd be on his way and could get more money in the Conference.
He's been treated shabily. We all know who LJ was talking about post match without actually naming George at fault for a goal. You give him very little pre season game time and then help the opposition by playing one of our best players out of position rather than our 3rd choice RB in his natural position. He should have started the game instead of being brought on when Chesterfield we well on top. Yes his clearance header was weak but we still had a couple of attempts to clear it as it wasn't like they hit the shot first time. He's been hung out to dry.
If he had been on from the start he might have had the confidence to read the ball coming towards him and then twist his body so that it could have been a cushioned back pass to Davies off his chest. There was no one anywhere near him so there was no risk to doing this. Instead he panicked like the inexperienced player that he is and bang - 3-1 down and game over.
If Bree's not fit for Tuesday... LJ owt to play Williams for the start and back the lad.. Can't see it tho
Me too. When I saw him warming up, I was thinking that he must be f*cked off. Playing players out of position rather than giving him a chance.
I didn't like that the other players seemed to be having a go at him after the mistake either. Hourihane had a go and then turned away from him waving his arms - won't do his confidence any good! Makes you wonder if he's not a popular character in the dressing room.
He came on out of necessity yesterday as Scowen was clearly struggling in the unfamiliar right wing back role. The club has known that Holgate would be close to leaving all summer but in all fairness the injury to Bree although not surprising must have been untimely. Its clear that we need to recruit in this area and Williams for all his effort will struggle to command that position. Whether or not he can be a useful squad player remains to be seen but I think he and Phenix will be moved on.
Johnson clearly bottled it yesterday. Couldn't decide whether to not play either Crowley or Hourihane so decided to play both & shunt Scowen to RWB rather than play players in position.
I've not heard the LJ interview yesterday but if he's blamed Williams for the goal he's being very harsh. In my opinion, the lions share of the blame has to lie with LJ himself. That's if he wants to play the blame game.
One element of a large chaotic problem we have at present squad-wise. Let's be clear, George Williams is a young lad who has barely featured in the football league. He's less experienced that George Smith at this level! To bring him on against a good winger, with the game going away from us, then seemingly showing discontent with his performance is a huge concern. Poor management but more worryingly, a necessity due to our thread-bare squad.
It's a fact that he was 4th in pecking order for this game behind Holgate, Bree and Scowan. He hasn't been fully integrated into the first team squad. I don't know whether he will be a good player or not but he clearly isn't in LJs plans. As with Digby I don't think he will be in the running for a first team start. The difference here though is we haven't signed anyone that displaces him. Bit dissapointing that effectively we don't have a RB in LJs plans to start a game right now.
All he said was 'our full back headed it to their player' He didn't criticise Williams. He just said what happened Hopefully Johnson will show confidence in Williams and play him on Tuesday
If Johnson's blamed Williams then that is a right cop out. Keeper never gave him a call - and tbf some players called Davies for it immediately after. If we're going with 3 centre halves then LJ needs to sort his wing backs - and not bottle it and change formation halfway through a game. Shambles yesterday after bossing the game. He didn't blame Williams, here's what he said: The second and third goal are really poor goals for us to concede. First one we lose our marker and the second out, our full-back heads it straight back into the danger area. Read more at http://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/ar...eld-reaction-2602861.aspx#h5h6QIxBpxscSIup.99 He's just stated what's happened. You could equally say he's blaming whichever player lost Ebanks-Blake for the 2nd (I don't know who) All I can say regarding the change of formation was that we were getting overrun in midfield due to Scowen not being there. The change didn't work but it's never ideal when your first two right backs aren't available My view was that the game changed when Chesterfield got close to Crowley and got more attacks down their left. That's just my opinion
Holgate was told to leave last week, Bree was injured (again) and Williams has been handled poorly; his last 'serious' game was away at Guiseley so hardly great preparation for League 1 wingers. Napoleon (aka LJ) knew he was losing Holgate, and don't forget his statement last year "I don't play centre-backs in full back positions", and knows Bree is fragile so effectively drops Williams in it through poor man-management; the lad actually did ok and put two good crosses over.
