Now that we have all had a night to sleep on it and tempers have subsided, it is time to reflect on the events of yesterday, off the field. Barnsley FC had advised all travelling fans on Friday, that they would be held back after the game. The decision having been made by Derbyshire Police, following reports of two pubs and a Tesco store having been damaged by Barnsley fans last season. This decision was given in written form to all fans entering the stadium and again on the tannoy system throughout the game. Given the above, the Barnsley fans were never going to be allowed to leave the stadium with 20 mins to go, or at the end of the game. The above is factual and with my "independant hat on" as an SLO, it is now vital that we hear all factual events and not just heresay. I will read all the comments on the BBS as well as those on twitter etc. before our usual debrief with the Club. By that time the Club will probably have received the Police report. Can i ask that any factual comments be attached to this thread to make life easier. If you prefer, comments can be made in private to slo@barnsleyfc.co.uk . Please to assist can you provide information where the events took place ie seating, gangways, concourse or within the cordon. In addition Police nos of any officers involved. This will aid any CCTV collaboration etc. Many thanks and up the reds.
In all my years as a bfc fan going to away games yesterday was the worst I've seen from the police! Hitting folk with their weapon just for wanting to go to the toilet. I had to get an old lady out of the way because she would have got some of the police (thugs in uniform). When trying to speak with the police they had no time for us,we just wanted an explanation as to why this was happening. I will be making a formal complaint. And I bet you bfc fans get hammered for this when in actual fact it's the police that caused all the ****! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Asked the officer to use toilet just before fulltime the one with beard blocking the gangway to the right hand side. He said 'no one is going any where' I explained I dont want to leave the ground just use toilet his reply 'no' when I asked for a explanation to the he just ignored me his arrogance just no need. Spoke to the woman steward and even she was shocked by it all. After a while they let us all outside of the ground but barricaded a section outside off. they should have put on the slips of paper noone will be allowed to use toilet facilities either.
I wasn't made aware of being made to stop in the ground until they announced it over the tannoy just after they got the 3rd goal..... Why block the gangways instead of just letting people use the concourse facilities and blocking the exits there?
Saw one Police officer hit a young lass round the top of the legs with a batton. Refused to let my Daughter go to the toilet. They said they would be keeping fans in after the match but had no right to stop people leaving early. Innocent fans getting pushed and shoved around. I was told by a Transport Police Officer that in his opinion the Derbyshire Police had handled it wrong. There was no trouble until the Police stopped people leaving early.
Our kid had to stand in front of some guy to stop him getting hit by the coppers.(I'd place him in his late 60s) who was getting very upset because he needed the toilet urgently due to ' gentleman's problems'. The officers were ridiculously aggressive towards the old fella. I tried to explain the situation ( in reasonable terms I was completely sober and polite) and was pretty much to,d to F off or get arrested.
Police was letting some families with children go after the game but when I asked to leave with my daughter they didn't let us. Didn't make sense that they were allowing some and not others. Overall, I think the police blew the situation out of proportion and there would have been far less trouble if the policing was more relaxed.
Was that the guy with a number something like J880 on his shoulder? The guy who when the blonde fella was dragged out he got back to his spot and winked, laughed and got patted on the back by his colleagues after being clearly heavy handed? If so I saw it but there is no way nothing will be done because police don't film themselves to protect themselves from aquasation. He was horrible and gives good coppers a bad name.
I've posted loads on this last night and stand by all I said. Took me long enough to type the posts out on my phone so I'll not be repeating it. Please read the forum though.
Truly appalling behaviour by CERTAIN members of SYP, when we conceded the last goal I attempted to make my way out of the ground unaware (few too many beers to recall we were being kept in) but obviously was blocked in. The happy use of truncheons was disgraceful, a female police woman actually got on the wrong side of the fans and looked pretty scared considering she had a wooden 'cosh' at the ready. After a few minutes I was stood behind the cordon, actually speaking with members of Barnsley police explaining I though it was all ott (much to thee agreeance) there was then a decision to retreat by the police, I was shoved by a office (No noted down) the full length of the concourse although there was no explanation and clearly no where to push me, even his colleagues looked confused by his decision, when I complained he simply smirked and left the talking to his superior to which his response was poor. I appreciate that they want to contain fans but surely they could've let fans go (to the pub no doubt) but just followed them and let controlled it far easier. Very poor from the live IMO yesterday
Yes that was him absolute discrase he was definatly bullied at school. But like you said nothing will be done our little youth mob are bad but they were no better yesterday. Thats me for away games for a bit ill be at oakwell vs burton but didnt like yesterday definatly wont visit chesterfield if we play them next season. I was planning to do burton but in two minds now with it been same police force policing them.
At the front of the stand: Barnsley fans crowding round the perimeter fence and shouting "we're going on the pitch", a small group looking at stewards and chanting " you're gonna get your ****ing heads kicked in" In the gangways: Barnsley fans rushing the police and chanting "just like Hillsborough, we do what we want" In the police corden outside: Barnsley fans threatening police (and im talking about a lone police officer who never once raised his voice or was anything other than polite). A large group of Barnsley fans charging the police at the north west corner of the ground with punches thrown by Barnsley fans and a small number of other Barnsley fans having to hold them back. Police drew battens to protect themselves. In other areas of the corden I saw police selectively let a few Barnsley fans pass them if they deemed them to be vulnerable. eg an elderly couple, a family with children and a man who was complaining about being dehydrated who was allowed to pass and given directions to the nearest shop (after a few police officers asked amongst themselves if anyone had any bottles of water to give to him)
Can I ask how you managed to see all this if you stayed in your seat like requested Or did you also go into the concourse ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When the big blonde fella was being dragged out in a perfectly acceptable manner with reasonable force by about four police officers, he came over to "help" and was many times over more heavy handed than the others put together. It looked at one point like he may have taken a swing on the sly. I really hope the police film their own guys as evidence so this footage is around to be seen. Or at least the aftermath where he was laughing and winking like I said. Keeping behind everyone was stupid. Let us go into the concourse. We have older fans, diabetic fans etc who should be allowed their basic human right of using the bog if they need a wee. When everyone was kept in surrounded by police vans again common sense could be used so that people with young children, elderly and others you can see aren't trouble causers could be let go. This in turn would have made their job easier because they would have had just the known idiots to deal with.
they let me and my lad go when i asked why we were being kept here? answer was we are walking you upto the train station, i told him i was in a car , so he said to another cop, if they show you their car keys let them through , so thats what we did , and went on our merry way,
Do you think it's right to stop fans using the toilets or is that the fans fault also Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
