I realise this will have been discussed at length, but I've been away, so apologies. While it's never acceptable to go on the pitch during a game, the strongly worded statement on the official site, plus the lengthy bans handed out, make it sound much worse than some barm pot running on the field celebrating a goal. Was it just that or was it something more sinister?
A guy ran on the pitch about 10 mins into the second half with a rubber ring around him. He ran around a bit near the corner flag near away end, nearest to East Stand (where we were taking a throw in) with a big silly grin and then left the pitch.
Thank you. Just someone acting like an arse then. Not that I'm condoning that, but after reading the official site I was worried someone had smacked one of the players.
Great word. I like 'imbecilic' too. "that decision to recruit 27 midfielders when we've no full backs or wingers, in a very Spackman-esque manner is very imbecilic"
I think the statement from the club came out of frustration at yet another issue within the fan base. I believe we fought hard to not have a massive police presence/bill at the game, only for someone to run on the pitch after being egged on by his mates who allegedly did a whip round to spur him (rumour I heard. Nothing concrete).
Some kid off his box ran on the pitch. No mention however of the two barnsley fans getting slapped on the train...
