Made me laugh - http://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/article/mason-holgate-signs-for-everton-2615928.aspx PUBLISHED 11:25 13th August 2015 Barnsley Football Club can confirm that Mason Holgate has today joined Everton on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee. The fee has been announced as undisclosed, but the Club can confirm that it exceeds the figure routinely reported in the press. The Club has also negotiated to retain a significant on-going financial interest in Mason’s career moving forward. The Club wishes Mason every success in his future career.
same. Still won't stop people asking the question... How much did we get? I heard a rumour, 50p and a chomp bar.
A think the club have done as well as they possibly could considering the fee was undisclosed. So basically we've got more than a million and a good sell on fee? Good business of you ask me, yes he looked a good player but it was only L1 bear in mind, I wish him all the success and I hope he can be another John stones. Mr Cryne should be very proud of himself.....another accademy star moving onto to bigger and better things financed by the man hinself. fair play to lad
I've often heard it argued that a transfer fee is undisclosed because to announce it would alert other clubs to how much money we have causing the price of the players we wish to buy to increase. Anyone care to explain to me how "the Club can confirm that it exceeds the figure routinely reported in the press" helps with that?
I suspect the figure "reported in the press" is the £500,000 and not the £1mn-£2mn mentioned on here over the past few days.
totally agree ^ We are used to the 'undisclosed' malarkey but why enhance the statement like that is beyond me.
Because every single Q&A night they'd be asked about the Holgate money sell on clause, I think they've had enough with the Stones one. Maybe we would have been happy to disclose it but Everton wanted it keeping quiet? They didn't appreciate when Chelsea spoke monetary amounts in the press and said that they don't do that.
That's how I see it. Club can't seem to win either way so they are just trying to reassure fans that we have received a decent fee, while not alerting other clubs to exactly how much we have to spend.
Were all sick of it, no denying. I believe the point Jay was making though is that a figure of £1m or even £2m has been reported. So if we go in for JOS for example, Blackburn hold the negotiating power straight off, cos we have basically told them we are minted. Or something.
Is it just me who couldn't care less wether we find out how much a transfer fee is. I don't need to, I'm not getting any of it so I really can't understand the constant paranoia that goes on on here
I'm not so sure though. I mean how could Blackburn know (or us as fans for that matter) how much of the fee is earmarked for transfers and how much goes towards the running costs? As far as I'm aware, to a certain extent we rely on selling our star prospects to fund the running of the club now we're in League 1.
Essentially we screwed up on the Stones deal, perception and way it was handled. The club desperately want to give the illusion of competence... so announce we got more than people think.... ensuring the fee's we've been struggling to justify to the selling clubs... are now reachable and mean we'll have to pay over the odds. Slick
I think that statement is as clear as the club would want to make it. We got more than £500k for Mason; we have secured some additional future income through, presumably, sell-on percentage and/or appearances. That is about as good as we could expect, so it looks like a good deal both for club and for player. I am ok with 'undisclosed' because, if the figure is publicized, suddenly players like Smith etc double in value. That also seems a good move from the club to keep it undisclosed. Now to secure Smith and a couple more with the money. And all the best to young Mason - hope he makes it during the time of his contract there. Back here on loan, anyone???
