Did you actually go? To those that didn't, it wasn't dire, I assure you. The problem was the inexperience. The decision making at times left a lot to be desired but every player gave 100% and we had some patches of good quality. Mawson looks an absolute class act. What's needed? An experienced head. We just don't have it and that will be our downfall in games this season, but on today's efforts, we'll be OK.
you pair are unbelievable why bother going or listening or watching on telly.... maybe you can rent some videos of folks funerals to watch instead..... sheeeeesh
We didn't get a decent cross in throughout the game. The final ball was either hit too long or it didn't get past the first defender. We need to improve on that. Apart from the penalty I think we had one shot on target. They could have easily won the game if their finishing was better. It's going to be a tough season ahead.
Listen to other people on this thread that have all been It was dire end off Yes we won Did I enjoy it no Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Maybe not dire. A bit turgid. Sad to see us as a home team being so negative - wasting time all the second half, hanging on. That attitude was indeed dire.
Disagree. It was dire. We didn't create a clear goal scoring opportunity all game. Felt we could've easily lost 3 or 4-1 & we'd be bottom of the league & could have no complaints. I've seen a few try & make out our centre backs were solid today but Burton had several clear chances in our box
It certainly wasn't great, LJ said the same himself, but we won and I thought Burton looked a decent, well organised side. Three points is three points.
It wasnt great but we got a win final ball let us down alot of time and playing posession football is ok untill you over play it and give it away in your own half like we did. We did play some nice stuff at times though
what chances did we actually create apart from the penalty??????????? it was poor up front, but we worked hard in midfield and as usual had some scares at the back...
I didn't go, but by flip that was dire. That was the worst performance I've never seen since 1968. I don't know why I bother. Booooo.
It was an important game to win. This despite the strikers barely being in the game. We need to toughen up in certain areas, as we were quite literally pushed aside too often (could have been two penalties for theatrical pushes that you used to see in silent movies after the culprit first twirled his moustache!). But Bree showed in the last twenty minutes that it's not necessarily an age thing, as he stood up to their great big substitute on more than one occasion. But if they had shown a bit more composure up front we wouldn't have won that game. I think we had three shots to their twelve, which isn't great, and they missed an absolute sitter near the end when Bree got dragged away from his man. There were glimpses of good football though, so it will come, but we need a lot more up front than we showed today.
So, we won. You let that fact blind you to the negatives if you want. But it was dire and we robbed them blind. We had one shot from open play. They could have been 3 or 4 up at half time. We won because of a very soft penalty decision. That doesnt make it good. Of course its early days and we all hope they gel into a good side. But there's no point berating people for saying it was dire today because it was dire.
I'm usually one of the more positive members on here, but I can't deny that the performance wasn't good. Playing 5-3-2 in the first half, we offered nothing. The midfield three sat too far back, leaving the front two isolated and inviting pressure on ourselves. I can't think of a clear chance we had all game, where as they had at least half a dozen. In the second half we looked a lot better playing with four at the back, but still couldn't create anything. Really impressed with the signings of Roberts and Mawson though. Roberts had a couple of shaky moments but he'll learn from them over the season. Only three games in, we'll be 'reight with a player like Ryan Williams in the side, and maybe John O'Sullivan too..
