thereev is now of the opinion that there is no excuse whatsoever for not upgrading Oakwell to a modern, welcoming facility that people want to attend regularly. By this I mean the scoreboard, the TV's, the whole dank and dismal customer experience needs upgrading. I can understand bfc not wanting to spend money on the west stand as it is fooked and ready to fall down even though thereev and the 'real fan's' continue to sit there. That would probably be a waste of money. Yes I understand the results are more important etc etc etc....but and it is a big but; other clubs I have visited recently (not a vast number I grant you) for example Pikey Park and Chesterfield to name but two, have nice decent little grounds with facilities to match. Nothing extravagant but welcoming and decent facilities etc. It is even quite warm in the back of Pikey Park at half time whereas Oakwell is bast.ard freezing at half time and there is no where to get out of the cold at all really for ten minutes. Couple of heaters and some perspex putting up in ESL to block the icy winter winds would sort that out, for that section of the ground. What with the Holagte money and the impending Stonesy money (it will happen soon folks, Chelski won't take no for an answer and you can bet the lad can't wait for a 100k a week pay increase!) on its way, there is no excuse at all not to upgrade. BFC could get shut of one of the loanees and have another bit of cash to put towards the proposed upgrade. 300k / 400k would do it all easily and that ain't much compared with the money that is rolling in and about to roll in. However I have a nasty feeling Benjamin will have a bagful of carp excuses why this cannot be done. This does in effect show that they don't give a fekkety fek really about the paying customers imo. I won't hold mi breath Benji. hth
You should try the New Den @ Millwall Scaffolding where the score board used to be - not even a clock The one TV screen under the stand was turned on though but not somewhere you would want to spend any time
Agree about the cold. Can't even dry your hands properly after having a piss as the hand dryers are the worst I've ever seen. Doncaster's horrible, don't get me wrong it's a lovely new ground but it just feels soulless, I'd hate Oakwell to be like that
Wouldnt cost a fortune to drop a mezzanine ceiling in east stand lower. Theres already been a few volunteers put their name forward to paint it FOC
Some heaters in the concourse is a very good idea. If you want to keep warm during the colder months you have to do a George Michael and hang around the gents to warm up off the heat of people's piss and the one tiny heater in there.
do the right thing Benj with some of the Stonesy money......well ask your boss if you can anyway. hth
I can remember when the scoreboard was that little brick outhouse in the corner of the Spion Kop. They put half time scores up against letters 'A', 'B', 'C', etc, and you had to buy a programme to unravel the secret code. Them were the days!
Aye and they used to post two lots of half-time scores on the same board so as soon as they finished putting up the last score on the first batch of scores they'd start changing them. The whole process was that slow that if you took too much notice of the scores being posted up you'd miss most of the 2nd half action. Not that you'd missed too much action when John McSeveney was the manager!!
Didn't know you were that old!!!! I used to put those scores up. We would put a nil in the top box and then hover a 3/4 behind the hole for a couple of seconds, whilst people got excited then put another nil in !!!!
