How typical would it be if he did and then one of our own players injure him, thereby stopping a move and blowing our own chances at getting 6 mil or so?

Martinez selected a strong side a few seasons ago against Stevenage at home in the same stage of the cup.

Probably, yes. Don't think they have a senior central defender besides him and Jagielka.

No chance sadly. Negotiations with Chelsea will be at the very least ongoing and Mourinho will not want him cup tied, he likes to win the League Cup more that most 'big club' managers.

I'd be surprised to see JS playing on Wednesday even if he still an Everton player.

I bet he does. He'll want to & Everton will have a real go at the cups this season as they're not in Europe

Martinez must be cuckoo if he plays him ! What's to be gained from him playing apart from pleasing the Barnsley fans. As said earlier Mourino / Peregrine / HGV whoever it is wont want him cup tied. If he goes to any of the big three the cup will be part of his game time this year especially at the Chelski so I wouldn't expect Stonsey to want to play apart from the sentiment.

Apart from all that I would guess that the finance boys at Everton realise it might reduce his worth and would they really risk a 40 / 50 million quid asset in the early rounds of a minor cup competition unless they really have to.

Holgate might start alongside Jags though !
