For the majority of the game. We saw plenty of effort & commitment, but little quality in the final third. Both goalkeepers brought off excellent saves in the first half. In the second, City wasted a glorious chance when Scowen slipped, giving their striker a clean run on goal which he wasted. We then nearly grabbed a last minute winner from Hourihane's free kick, but hit the post, unfortunately. Other than that, it was extremely rare to see either team get behind the opposition's defence.
If we're going to play with a lone striker, then hopefully over the coming weeks, we'll see more support afforded to him from the midfield and our wide players.
Another clean sheet, though & both Roberts and Mawson are looking decent signings.

I thought it was Mawson, but my eyesight and brain frequently plays tricks on me.

Don't get me started on our use of the sprinklers again. We seem to have invested in 2 more this season too. Nobody can keep their feet in the 2nd half in that area of the pitch. It will cost us one day.

Fair report other than that :)

Yer maybe reight cos I`m in same boat as thee. We`d have to sit one at either side though for equilibrium.

Displays like that will do little to attract the missing fans back to Oakwell!

Sorry for the negative slant on today but I had more fun meeting folk of this forum. A cracking bunch they are too!

The game was just an anti Climax

    And still get it wrong!:D
Work in progress on the field. I'd love to see us play with a bit higher tempo and get Crowley on the ball further forward where he can cause more damage. Perhaps that'll happen once Williams is fit and up to speed.

Tempo is the key. Our attacks are very pedestrian at the moment. Like you say Willians should inject some speed of thought and foot. And sone support for Sam would be lovely too.

I've emailed club suggesting they move the goalposts to each touchline. We are f00king untouchable playing from side to side. Like you say, it is just moving it forward that seems to be a struggle at the moment.

this Williams saga worries me, another issue this week and scan on coming Monday. LJ insinuated they might just throw him in last week or so and see how it goes but seems his readiness to play isn't clear.

Oh no please don't tell me Barnsley are to play 4231. Seems to be very fashionable but a dreadful formation which produces poor football.
United have and still do play this and look at our results. I'm hating every moment these days.

Well, last week we played 3-5-2 and people complained. I think we're still looking for the best formation that will make the most of the talents available to us.

Perhaps Williams' ongoing injury problems & not being able to get the O'Sullivan transfer done prompted the move for young Harris?

Well I'd say only playing 1 up front at home seems to be a very defensive and unexciting formation. Will do nothing to keep the fans happy especially if wins are not got by playing this way.

Wouldn't expect to get too many points playing this way.

A lot of the bigger clubs with extremely talented players at their disposal seem to make it work and be entertaining at the same time. Personally, I didn't think it posed that many problems for Bradford today. I'm not going to worry too much about it, though. We're in August, only played four league games, picked up seven points, progressed to the second round of the League Cup, so in my opinion it's hardly the time to start panicking.

^^^This is my problem. We at United do not have extremely talented players anymore. LOL

We do seem to struggle to make anything work. Hopefully Barnsley can make it work. But it is murder when you watch your side struggle to put the oppo keeper under any pressure.

It can certainly be frustrating, but I'll refrain from stamping my foot, waving my fist and doing any Violet Elizabeth impersonations.:D
