surely this means that Chelsea (or someone else) will now pay less as Everton now have a player who 'officially' is unhappy there.

If Everton were able to argue that both Club and player were happy where they are then surely it would take more money (£40M+) to prise him away.

so less for us I guess ... I understand 'a bird in the hand' and all that, but we aren't desperate for the money right now and I think Everton would have sold him this week anyway.

I don't think so. I still think Everton hold the aces. Bottom line is they don't have to do a cracker. He's contracted til 2019. I just think it maybe influences them to start listening to offers. Possibly also opens the door for other clubs to start getting interested. I doubt he'll go for less than £35m

I don't see that as an issue at all. The request changes nothing with respect to how we'll come out of it. Why do you think he'll now go for less?

because we all know that if a player wants to leave a club, said club really have no choice but to sell. There's an endless list (Suarez etc.)

If I wanted to buy something from somebody and I knew they had to sell I'd offer less... simple really not sure why you don't see it.

Could easily see the Manchester clubs getting involved.

Because they don't have to sell. Simple as that really. He's 4 years left on his Everton contract.

You think Suarez was sold on the cheap? And he was forced by Liverpool to stay an extra year.

Chelsea will still have to increase their bid to get the deal done.

Suarez, Bale and Modric are still playing for Liverpool, Tottenham and Tottenham because transfer requests do nothing to engineer a move to a bigger (see 'oil-doped' in the case of Chelsea, sithi) club.

Everton have to sell Stones now. It might not be this transfer window, but he won't be there at the end of the season.

They don't have to sell for less though is the point I'm trying to make. If Chelsea now bid £20m do you think Everton will have to accept it? No is the answer.

Won't reduce his value. His value is whatever Everton will sell him for - or the most Chelsea will bid.

The fact he wants to go to Chelsea encourages them but he's still Everton's player to sell. I'd expect a fee in the range of £37-40million.

Suarez, bale, Modric all asked to leave, and top dollar was received for all of them.

Does anyone think the fees Tottenham get are too low? Think the scousers got £75million for the toothy one and he had a huge ban to finish. The fact the request has gone in will not reduce his value.

I never said one way or the other what the fee would be - just that he won't be an Everton player at the end of the season.

I might be wrong about this but didn't Spurs have a bid of £15m turned down for Berahino, then he put a transfer request in and Spurs have now had a bid of £22m turned down? If true, that would suggest the a transfer request doesn't affect a player's market value.

Yup...Spuds are desperate for a striker and will pay over the odds to get one...Ditto Chelsea for a CB.

Not sure why you think everyone thinks Stones handing in a transfer request is a good thing.

Practically everyone who posts on here about this subject has little by way of information or understanding of the crucial aspects that may dictate what the major players in it are facing.

I may be worse - I have no information or understanding.

Though having regard to Stonesey's transfer request, I'd like someone now to explain to me the ethical/moral/anyold difference between him and the slagged off on here Holgate.

There is no difference. Both doing what they think is best for their career/life. I haven't, and won't, slagged either off though so probably not best placed to answer your question.

Re: Not sure why everyone thinks stones handing in a transfer request is a good thing

This is not a thoroughly researched reply but am I right in thinking that Stones by handing in a transfer request, relinquishes his right to a signing on fee? If so that would save Chelsea a significant figure, say 5 or 10%, which could then be put towards the transfer fee. If that is the case, maybe Everton have wanted him to put in a request all along, so they can maximise the fee. After all they also have a significant sell on clause to pay out so I hear.........
