My heart still beats with pride at the performance of my team and our fans. That's what makes being a Barnsley fan so worthwhile. You see so many disheartening performances over the years, but then along comes a special night like last night. For me, if you're incapable of enjoying the abilities & commitment of your team against excellent opposition operating at a financial level light years from ours, then perhaps a bit of personal re evaluation ought to take place. When we were struggling at times with Everton, it was because of the quality of the opposition players, not through any failings of our young lads. It is possible to appreciate and acknowledge your opponents qualities, without having to nit pick and criticise any of our own players. I loved everything about last night apart from the result and was proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with our outstanding supporters in showing appreciation to our players for an excellent footballing display. Last night's performance lifted the heart and spirit. It epitomised exactly what we love about our club and the game as a whole. At one time, I'd have been angered by people trying to over analyse and being overtly critical of tactics and individual players, trying to sound as if they're speaking with the authority of a Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger or Jose Mourinho. They then sometimes top it off by criticising the business acumen of a multi millionaire by trying to come across as another Sir Alan Sugar. Yet their own capabilities stretch as far a social media site, rather than working alongside the footballing elite or being a captain of industry. I know as little as they do, but at least I can admit I know nothing when compared with the professionals and try to adjust any criticism I may have to reflect this. Nowadays, every time I hear a persistent critic, with a reluctance and incapability to offer praise, a feeling that they're all knowing with an answer to every problem, then I'm reminded of a Harry Enfield character who was always telling others whatever they were doing, they were doing it wrong. <img src ="http://blogs.virginmedia.com/files/7413/7483/1174/10_Mr_you_dont_wanna_do_it_like_that.jpg">
Last praise was heaped on all concerned because it was richly deserved. Criticism will happen again also when it's deserved and sometimes when it's not deserved. People have a right to there opinion and are right in their opinion! The so called professionals and those with apparant business acumen are not always wise in their decision making hence the reason people become critical. More of last night's displays will result in us all singing from the same hymn sheet
The gret tw@t But it came as a shock to me, and I'm glad to have it pointed out by a more sentient being that an inexperienced 3rd division side with a couple of lads playing unfamiliar roles had their shortcomings exposed over 2 hours of intense football against a top flight side some of whom were multi million pound international players. I might do a long winded critique of it all to basically say 'I'm right '
This is the first thing I've read/heard that puts how last night felt into words and does it justice.
How can an opinion be right or wrong? It's an opinion, not a fact. You can speak with the authority of an expert when you ARE an expert. As an analogy, the astrologer Russell Grant can pass on his opinion about the universe, but he can't speak with the authority of a Brian Cox or a Stephen Hawking. It's my opinion, which I'm expressing in a footballing sense, there are a great number of Russell Grants trying to pass themselves and their opinions off as Stephen Hawking.
What made me tingle was when they announced 1 min extra at the end of extra time and seemed like the whole crowd stood up and applauded, those that sneaked out early don't know what they missed.
My feeling precisely. A great night a great performance and a great atmosphere. Loved the applause which started when they announced a minute of stoppage time at the end, made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.
Blimey, that's so elevating and inspiring that I just had to read it out loud to Brad and Fudge. Brad grew back his missing eye and Fudge started waving his bad leg around like a can-can dancer. Thanks Kev... I love you.
how do we know ! i demand you present stephen hawking at tonights q and a so he can be quizzed on his knowledge of the beazer homes league!! isnt that how the bbs works now?
