Feeling relieved that Winnall has hopefully a decent laker at the side of him. Shame about no left back but the striker was the priority. The irony about this is if the club hadn't dragged it's arse with recruitment we wouldnt be having this debate.
But we don't know the club as dragged its arse with transfer dealings.Like we didn't know Smith would be our player today or the keeper would be signing permanent today.Thats my whole point nobody knew what was going off behind the scenes but this board as shown signs of mass suicide today.I'm utterly confinced that Mr Cryne wants the very best for the fans of Barnsley football club.I'll continue to show my faith and patience with the men at the top.
We don't know what's gone on behind the scenes, the club have been clear on the type of player they want to sign and are working within a specific wage budget which I guess is more to maintain dressing room harmony rather than being unable to stretch to the wages being demanded. This isn't happy clapping, it's being realistic and quite encouraged that we haven't just made a few panic buys today.
Looks like Johnson has got players he wanted and that's important. For all we know he asked about Smith at the start of the season and was told to wait. Swindon now has Wes Thomas so they can let Smith go. We have him with an option to buy, which is good for all sides. Excellent use of a loan. Let's hope he likes the rest of the squad and feels like he can contribute and be part of something.
Maybe, just maybe there's not been any arse dragging. Maybe, just maybe, it's people like you who don't show the necessary patience and fail to put some trust into what the club is trying to achieve. Get a grip man and stop criticising everything that's happening.
So have we brought in any wide players and a left back then ? Or have we just signed the keeper that was here and got a striker ? I have just got in from work and they are the only ones I can see so far ?
Can I ask why anyone would feel silly? We've signed a striker on loan, which means we now have 6 outfield loan players but can only have 5 in a match day squad, a kid for the development squad and a keeper that was already here. I don't understand why that would make anyone feel silly. Fair enough, if we'd brought in two strikers, a winger and a left back, all on permanent deals, I could understand why someone would be crowing, but we haven't. Unless I've missed something. Not that I have any problems with these signings but to suggest our business today has addressed the numerous issues with the squad is nonsense.
I'm one of the silliest people on this board. Even a silly **** like me can see we have the worst Barnsley squad since 1976. Anyone who thinks different is (or are) really silly.
I don't feel silly. However, I do feel a bit worried that we're still very short on numbers. Even with Smith, I think we're a bit thin up front. It would only take one injury to a centre back and we'd be in trouble. I wouldn't be too concerned about throwing in Smith regularly at left back but it's a lot to ask from a young lad still learning the game. We seem to have some quality in the squad and credit has to go to Johnson for identifying his targets. However, i think our season will be made or broken by the number of injuries we get. Considering our last chance to rectify that has now passed, I'm a little bit nervous about our options on the bench and in reserve. I've noticed that SCMP rules have been cited as a hindrance to our recruitment. I don't know the figures but I'm surprised that a club with probably one of the highest turnovers in the division including gate receipts, sponsorship, transfer fees and benefactor donations (am I right in saying these are included?) cannot assemble a strong squad. Surely the departures of Cranie, Lita, Treacy, Jennings etc have slashed our wage bill considerably.
