Was thinking about my early days on the BBS ......

Apart from the main forum, there were a couple of chatrooms - pretty sure they were named after pubs, or at least components of pubs - 'The lounge' 'the taproom' and 'the snug' seem to ring a bell.

If it all started getting feisty in a main thread, you could take it into a side room and continue there. So the main thread could continue without descending into meltdown, but if a couple of posters wanted to take it into a different direction (am thinking Jay / PoR thread as an example) then they could meet in the taproom and have it out in there.

I'm sure the way things have evolved with the internet of things that some clever poster could contribute a bit of graphics wizardry to make it into a bit of virtual reality piece.

Unfortunately, although I am an 'ideas man' I possess not an ounce of talent when it comes to creating such things

    * disclaimer, this is not a dig at anything Jay / PoR may or may not have said.

    Yes please

if they made them user specific... so you could go into one without some of the children on here..... I play online games and I use a voice/mike system called Ventrillo... that has the option to make rooms public or private... would love that too in a text way.

How about a chat roulette type feature where you are matched up with a random poster via web cam?

T'was The Outpost, named rather predictably after the boozer where most of us used to meet up in that real life on Saturdays/Tuesdays. There was definitely a 'Car Park' sub-forum (where many an issue was settled), and some bogs, from memory. Peaked with the Christmas Party in there one year. Yes that's right, we had a Christmas Party, in a chat room named after a pub. On the internet.

I remember it well. You could go on there and see messages from hours ago before they'd been wiped and when you were on it you had to constantly press refresh to get it to show the latest messages. Basically it wasn't a chatroom at all was it, it was just this BBS in linear view but it was bloody great.
