Cannot agree with this at all, yes I believe some people in the police force abuse their power but the biggest hooligans are those that go to football games that have no interest in watching the football and go simply to cause trouble.

The police are far from perfect but on the whole the majority of them are there to keep the law abiding citizens safe and the fact that more police are having to attend Barnsley games says more about a small violent minority of those that attend the games than it does the police.

I nearly stopped attending after nearly being caught up in violence after the Leeds game at Oakwell in April last year. I was walking towards the train line trying to get back to the bus station and by bad luck I walked into the middle of a fight and the police saw in the nick of time that I wasn't a part of what was going on and guided me to safety. I nearly stopped attending Barnsley games because of that.

Yes, police and stewards make mistakes but they are human beings and getting pelted with abuse from hooligans is not a pleasant experience for someone who isn't able to defend themselves. I know you have a vendetta against the police but maybe if you looked at it from another perspective you might think differently.

The guy they hit was trying to attack the other teams fans, he was hit while the police wrestled him to the ground, it looked like a means to control the situation not get in a "sly punch" in. By no means are the police perfect and who knows maybe this officer was getting a kick out of it, but it doesn't look that way to me. If my kid was with me in the away end and the other teams fans did that I'd be glad the police were there to stop it.

It looked like a couple of indiscrimate cowardly punches to me , the 'officer' had him under control with others ,punches him ,then walks off leaving others to keep hold of him. I've had this argument with mates of mine who are or have been coppers, 'punching and slapping ' as a method of control is just the Police legitimising their 'right' to assault anyone they like. Other professions who have to use restraining methods for far more violent situations would be sacked for punching someone ie prison Officers, Mental Health workers in Psychiatric Hospitals . It didn't control the situation it inflamed it

I think you all got soft, in my time there a good slap is what most hooligans needed and the police gave them a good slap. I know, I was one of them

I'd say that the biggest hooligans in England are, in fact, the hooligans.

Restraining pissed-up knuckle draggers who want a scrap probably isn't easy and if a few of them get slapped I won't shed any tears.

What I find scary is the fact that Barnsley Loyal actually is responsible for employing people with little or no knowledge of employment law and fails to understand that the cause of trouble at football matches are the lunatics who go with the intention of causing aggravation rather than the police.

Can't say I'm a massive supporter of coppers in general after the miners strike and Hillsborough but if you go out looking for trouble yet get what you deserve

I don't like the police, either.

But I was grateful they were at Rochdale station on Saturday: there were some proper (Barnsley-supporting) numpties getting arrested, and I was glad to see the back of 'em.

I am more against the police than for them, but I feel safer in away towns/cities when they are about.

I'm not anti police when they do their job professionally ,smacking people with impunity because you've got a uniform on isn't acting professionally wether someone deserves it or not

I think especially at football games not all but alot abuse there position. Saw it against Sheffield u at oakwell last season while pushing people supporters to get them over the crossing before the barrier went down. One copper couldn't help but sly dig a bloke in side of face the bloke pretty pissed off turned round and confronted the copper then cameras came out ect.. a lot are very baton happy and love to sly dig football fans but there coppers they got bullied at school they have to get revenge on someone football fans it is.

The way some supporters were mouthing at the stewards at Chesterfield they deserved everything they get and more. The Billy big ******** who record the police rather than watching the game deserve the same. Some of our supporters have no concept of how to behave in public.

If the police retaliate by punching a supporter doesn't that make them just as bad ?

Erm so it's okay for police to record football supporters but not other way round? Works both ways if I went into town and punched a copper I'd get locked up and probley go jail but if they do it in a crowded area like that video it's okay

If you behave like a human being you will be treated as one, its simple really.
