If LJ is insistent on playing Roberts, Mawson and Nyatanga, then what are the thoughts on playing Mawson at CDM? In front of a back four including Roberta and Nyatanga at CB.

    I'm thinking

Bloody hell... we don't need any more midfielders.
And we definitely don't need any more people playing out of position just to accommodate them in the team.

    So in summary, I'm out.

If we're going to play a big strong lad in front of the back 4 for added protection I'd rather play Digby who's a lot better on the ball

We don't need any more midfielders, but we need someone who's willing to do the dirty work, pick up those second balls, disrupt the opposition, rather than just plough forward and leave us exposed.

Mawson is good on the ball. But he's no Cranie. I would like to see more height in the centre of midfield though.

So we need another midfielder, with different attributes to Pearson, Scowen et al?

Why, do you think they fulfilled those attributes today? We didn't win any second balls in the middle. No one stopped Lawrence pulling their strings and no on stopped their runs through the middle. I'm sorry, but Scowen, Pearson and Crowley isn't a feasible midfield for me.

I Think we have too many midfielders. I think that LJ needs to be bold and pick a midfield that works. That may involve dropping a favourite midfielder or a favourite defender, or both. We need balance. To me that means that at the back, one or two of Mawson/ Nyantanga/ Roberts makes way; and in midfield, one or two from Pearson, Scowan and Hourihane makes way.
And that's our problem. Being blessed with too many players in the same position.

What we don't need is making defenders into midfielders when we have plenty midfielders decent enough at this level.

You said we had midfielders that fit the 'destroyer' mould (to quote a former gaffer) but I fail to see that player in our current crop of midfielders, hence my OP.

He's not been 'blessed' by having too many similar midfielders, he's chosen to recruit that way. And meanwhile, we've not added a left back, nor any strikers until this week, no wingers of note, and nobody with any experience, nous or height in midfield. But then, considering a few of the signings we have made are players Danny Wilson signed or wanted, it makes you wonder how much say-so LJ has on that front.

    My thought.

Decide which two centre halves are playing.

Don't play the other. Pick full backs at full back. Midfielders in midfield.

Might be slightly large bonced to bump this but I believe we played two centre halves and two full backs today, and hourihane in the middle with scowen and Pearson rather than hidden out wide...

I criticised the team for having no proper striker, though to be fair Watkins did ok up top for half an hour in a tepid team performance to that point.

As soon as we got a centre forward on we looked bloody good.

Hats off to Johnson and Wright, they seem to be learning.
