Found this from a football league blogger. His take on our issues. He gets some of the names of our players wrong, but he's managed to come up with similar thoughts we've shared on here. http://www.thefootballab.co.uk/2015/2654/?
Whilst I agree with much he writes. However, promotion should be Barnsley’s objective, not financial gain. The money is, or should be, available. It begs the question therefore, as to why the club have not been willing to address the lack of leadership in the team by investing heavily in one or two experienced players To fulfil their potential as a team, and to stop conceding such poor goals, they must change their transfer policy. His solution - again similar to other opinions on here - is that other people should spend their money.
Yes we may need some experience in the future but to suggest we should change our transfer policy is ridiculous imo We've only been using it for 1 transfer window but this outside view suggests we should just knock it on the head simply because our first SIX games have not been too successful? Crazy As this team play with each other more often, more cohesion should come and those silly errors costing us goals should become few and far between
He does have too much time on his hands: I could never be arsed to sit through a video of Colchester v S****horpe and dissect it tactically. However, his assessment is pretty much bang-on.
I'm not denying that but I just think that to suggest we should abandon our transfer policy is ridiculous
What an absolute load of bollacks. Anyone could pick apart a team and apportion blame based on goals conceded. Looking forward to come up against the younger managers side who's he manager of again?
This chap is entitled to his opinion, which appears to be that the cure for our perceived ills is that we need older more experienced defenders. So it may be reasonable to assume we did better with Ramage and Cranie, which we didn't. Or maybe we should have held on to Stones and Holgate....but hang on they're only aged 21 and 18, so we couldn't have played them cos they don't fit the bill. Very few on here, if any, have blamed the defence for the indifference so far of our season. There's alot of analysis on here recently, from various sources, for what seems a relatively simple game. And much of it is just words words words.
what a great piece of work, he as nailed it, L J is getting thousands a week to try and sort out what this kid as seen straight away, why we didn't have ramage still on the books amazes me, not sure if L J wants young uns,on his books because he is so young himself ,but I will stand corrected but is there any coach involved with the first team, who is defensive coach?
Is it really absolute ballax? Even Stevie Wonder can see the problems we are having. There is nothing wrong with having young players in the side, nothing at all, but there hasto be someone out there that has some nous, some battle scars, to help these youngsters through the season. Especially the early parts of the season. We also have not got the squad right either, too unbalanced and weighted towards the central areas. We are telling players to play somewhere they are not comfortable. I said the other day that these players all look good as individuals, but they are struggling to play as a team. It boils down to the signing strategy we have with LJ. Instead of deciding his formation and tactics, then bringing in players that fit into that way of playing, it seems we have just gone out and signed players that are good (maybe great in the future) but dont fit into the system and we are trying to shoe horn them into it . We might have been better off leaving Rothwell, Pearson and Wilkinson at their own clubs and bringing in someone else, who may have been older , but fitted into the system better. To me it matter not whether the players are 17 or 31, if they are good enough play them, being young is not always the best thing for a footballer, especially filling a team with them. Having said all this I am maybe talking ballax myself ?
Not being funny. But whats an experienced pro got to do with Connor Hourihane not closing someone down which 10 secs later leads to a goal that by adding an experienced player or two will suddenly iron out all these issues, lets imagine Connor closed him down he threaded a ball past him and they still scored - then he would say Connor shouldn't have come out to close him down so quickly etc. I don't doubt some experience would aid the team - its just not going to iron out all the problems he's pointing out in each of those goals we conceded, in every goal conceded its easy to point out that if Y did Z then it wouldn't lead to a goal in every goal scored. (thats the bit i referred to as absolute bollacks) You might say they can help them on the pitch, to an extent i agree - but don't forget they will then replace some of our players then - so how would they then learn on the subs bench. These are youngsters its going to take many of them a full season to get to grips with the league - unfortunately as proven already people are all ready some supporters are starting to lose patience with the manager & team. Doesn't Paul Heckingbottom help with defensive coaching at the club or does he solely work with the younger players?
If there is someone out there with experience, he can tell the younger player what they are doing wrong, tell them to get back or push out onto a player, it is a big step up from the under 21`s that some of our players have been playing in, yet we are expecting them to know everything. An older more experienced player already knows this and can pass on his experience. Another problem is we have our most experienced playe playing at left back, he is a central defender and he is struggling himself out there so he cant help the young ones. Also, why would he replace one of our young players? He would replace one of someone elses players, ie one of the loan players we have. If Heckingbottom is doing the defensive coaching, then he is not doing a great job of it so far ! The problem is not just the defence,. it is a problem through the hole team. By the way , you blame Houriane, but Pearson (a defensive midfielder)never picks anyone up at all and others just move away.
No we are not, just very unbalanced, I have no doubt that these young lads are good players, but we are making it difficult for them to shine with tactics that dont suit them,
Tactics that don't suit them and nobody to lead them and guide then. John stones came through with the guidance of bobby and its no coincidence that both all three of our best academy products of late have shone in the position where they had a leader and we'll respected player to look up to. Now that isn't me saying bobby should be brought back but we need SOMEONE with a bit knowledge and able to command respect and give out advice. Patrick Cryne was saying the other day that he found it funny in an ironic way that Liam Lawrence ran the game last week. I didn't find it funny, I found it predictable. An old head full of experience ran rings round schoolboys. That isn't funny, all it does is highlights how stupid our transfer policy and reliance on young kids borrowed from famous clubs is.
