and before any of you start read this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middlesbrough Boro are Yorkshire simple as... and if you ever tell a smoggie he/she aint a Yorkie... then be prepared for a total slap down. Having been with the forces for over 32 years I can totally tell you the guys/gals from Middlesbrough are FIERCELY proud of being Yorkshire.
Re: and before any of you start read this Never considered Middlesbrough to be part of Yorkshire. I'm happy to hold onto that view in spite of whatever evidence can be provided. They speak like Geordies, hence they are Geordies to me. If Middlesbrough's in Yorkshire, where do you stop? Inverness? Stockholm? Edit: I don't get excited when I wake up and remember we're due to play Middlesbrough that day. It's just: oh, I hope we win! as though the opponent were Brighton or Blackpool or someone, but there's no more meaning to it than that. Just another game.
Re: and before any of you start read this Funny that because I know a few smoggies and they definitely don't think they are Yorkshire. Teesiders or Cleveland. Doesn't matter that they keep getting bunged in with Yorkshire for administration reasons.
Re: and before any of you start read this They are definitely Yorkshire. As for speaking differently, Barnsley folk are keen to say Sheffielders speak differently. People in Ripon speak different from Hull and Todmorden, and so it goes on. Before Heath got hold of power, Barnsley was in the West Riding of Yorkshire and Middlesborough was in the North Riding.
Re: and before any of you start read this i think its a case of us choosing to ignore middlesbrough whether they used to be within the boundries or not. neither us or the geordies want them lol.
Re: and before any of you start read this Seems to come up regular this discussion. I was very much 'are they chuff' until DT pointed out the historical/administrative aspects. They still feel like a 'north east' club to me- but you can't argue with facts. I'd guess for every smoggie that's proud Yorkshire there's one that's the opposite
Re: and before any of you start read this They were Yorkshire then Cleveland then Yorkshire again like Hull were Yorkshire then Humberside then Yorkshire again.
Re: and before any of you start read this this is optional as well, for me Hull were never not Yorkshire. the humberside thing was utter garbage.
Re: and before any of you start read this No they don't, did Brian Clough sound like a Geordie or a Yorkshireman?
Re: and before any of you start read this I don't know - he was a bit before my time. As I said, I'll think what I like, anyway. You do the same.
Re: and before any of you start read this exactly Baka, whether they are good or bad opinions, we all have the right to stick by what we think. and everybody else can do the same as well of course, but they dont need to turn it into an argument.
