He's an accomplished CB at this level and chips in with goals, I like him but he's no left back.

    This.

Play him at left-back and he's going to get ******* murdered, even in League One.

At centre-back, he's as solid as you can wish for, and an absolutely massive goal-threat from set-pieces.

definitely not a full back, but roberts doesn't deserve to be dropped. i think lewin, roberts & alfie in a 3-5-2 would be solid.

I get the feeling that was Johnsons original plan with bree and smith at wing backs

I thought he was getting absolutely mullered in the first half. Very poor. They kept dropping the ball over his head and often he had no idea where their striker was. That doesn't mean I don't really rate him, as last season he was more often than not our best defender (although had a habit of clearing the ball to the edge of our own box).

He also isn't a captain (referring to the comment in a previous post). Not a role suited to him, as last season proved.

    Fair point

I can't defend my knowledge of football

I had a £50 bet with my mate today we wouldn't even score today after seeing the starting 11

    Easy money for him

The best thing about Alewin is that he never hides or stops trying even when he isn't playing well. He was talking Smith through the game yesterday which was lovely to see . Definitely our best summer signing (as long as he doesn't play full back).

Agreed. He, Scowen, Hourihane and Winnall form a vital spine of our team

I really rate Lewin. As a centre half he's probably our best defender and his experience is vital to have in such s young and inexperienced defence.

Defensively I don't really rate him but he's a fantastic asset to have for set pieces
