I was fuming about that at the time. I thought he maybe thought it was going wide. He should have been sprinting for it like he was Usain Bolt. Jogging back to try and clear is totally unacceptable and I hope the manager had words with him because the captain should be leading by example. Roberts can feel hard done by being dropped instead of him.

He must have thought it was going wide, running like he's towing a six berth caravan.

Should have still been sprinting to be doubly sure. Even before yesterday i'd have prefered Roberts in over Mawson alongside Lewin. But club captain and team captain is generally going to be the way the "head coach" goes over a guy we got from non league.

Thought he could have got it at the time, convinced he could now.

More interesting than that though is the 3rd goal. Hourihane towers above the defender to win the header, gives him a shoulder in his back for good measure so he has space to drop the cross on Nyatanga's head. He could always do that from a dead ball situation, but now he's taking the ball off defenders and doing it. He's going to be a reight a player.

I commented on this poor attempt to clear it in my report yesterday. I thought it was Mawson but could not be sure. Maybe even the best sprint would still not have been enough but he could have tried. It was like a slow motion effort and the defender had his feet in treacle, so couldn't move fast enough.

He played well enough after that though.

Also key to note who's the one putting pressure on for the fourth? Hourihane.

He looks to have got his confidence back - his quality has never been in doubt to me but he has often only produced from dead balls these last 9 months. If he keeps doing that from open play too then we've only got one more season out of him. Far too good.

It was CH who pinged the ball to Wabara for our second goal as well. Simple enough pass but he hit it with enough pace to give Wabara the time to size up a shot and then let fly. Outstanding goal.

It's surely because he isn't playing out of position on the wing covering for the full back or at the back of midfield partnering Pearson like he has been doing.

I think it's as simple as he's playing with confidence at the moment. I'm sure he's always known what he needs to do to make the next step up - and good coaching will no doubt help - but the main thing with him is believing. When his tail is up he competes for more 50/50 balls, takes more risks and is more involved in the game, which is when his undoubted quality shows most.

Yesterday was his best game for 12 months, if not the best since he arrived. I said the same after Everton too, so maybe there's some consistency arriving now, which like others have said probably means we've got him for 9 months maximum.
