What I don't understand is if employers are forced to pay a living wage so taking people out of tax credits that will mean the tax credit bill will be reduced, so why the need to CUT working tax credits? It'll happen anyway won't it?
It's not so black and white. The government want to reduce the tax credit and in work benefits bill by reducing the subsidies handed out to workers whose employers are paying less than the target wage. It's a good idea in principle but I have my doubts about it working in practice. I think the minimum wage is an insult to working adults, I think it's shameful that we have companies paying such a pittance to adults and expecting their wages to be topped up through benefits. What boils my pi55 more is in some of these companies the gap between the lowest and highest earners is x100s. And I'm not a socialist.
Yer gerrin theer tho Mario slowly but surely You'll be whistling the red flag without even knowing it soon.
I don't think it's fantasy at all, I know people who believe what they read in the Sun and Mail. I know people who said they couldn't vote for Milliband simply because of the way he looked. So yes I really insult my fellow human Beings who allow themselves to be manipulated like this. So not a Myth. It does happen with some people. Itv is pro govt, BBC is not left leaning, Sky belongs to Murdoch, buff said.
How can it be a good idea? What will be the end result? People struggling even more (not the employers and top brass though). It's too early to even consider doing it. Until the minimum wage is £10 p/h (at least), and ALL employers are forced to pay it, it'll just fvck over people who are working but haven't got **** all. I don't expect this govt to give a **** though, they clearly don't.
Lol. Made me chuckle. He's right though. I've worked my ****** of constantly. Many hours unpaid. What did I get. Sorry I know it's insulting but here's an extra 400 quid. Meanwhile up in the clouds I'm sure our superiors got nice fat bonuses and further up likely to be on more that x100 Mario mentions. But I ain't got it in me to check it out. Cos my piss wouldn't boil. It would likely explode
That's why I don't think it will work in practice. It's a good idea in theory, making employers pay a living wage but I just see too many loopholes and unscrupulous employers who'll lay people off.
Symptomatic of the tories though. They don't care about reality they just see an opportunity to save a few quid by sticking the boot in to the least well off. Or being a lovely person as I call it.
I can imagine. The figures presented in our social gathering made good reading. Shows how much we have worked. But not to share the success after all the ****** we are constantly put to is grinding my gears.
Which will benefit scrupulous employers who'll hopefully fill their void.the (some)employers will call foul and say it can't be done but look at the minimum wage for t could have been so much better. But with the weak backed MP's who brought it in couldn't wouldnt defend or champion it and it became a wage cut for many as they ignored calls for wage rises until they fell to minimum wage levels. It needs fair legislation but above all some MP's with balls.
That's not really the reason they're doing it though, they're trying to shift the burden from tax payers to employers which is the right thing to do. The biggest flaw in the plan is that some fiscal advisors don't think the figures add up. If they (the government) can ensure that workers are no worse off then it is a small step in the right direction. There were lots of forecasts of doom when the minimum wage was introduced but the predicted armageddon failed to become a reality - the same will be true of the living wage.
I'm not buying it. It won't work. And I'm still struggling with why if workers are going to be paid so much by their employer so they don't need to rely on the state why they need to CUT the tax credits, that can only effect those that do still need to rely on it. It's as simple as that.
