Had enough, 23 interruptions in total during this afternoon's match. I know some won't agree but that's life. Very poor service since the change to Radio Sheffield commentary. Email address for cancellations is player.support@streamamg.com, as it takes some finding on their site.
I've always liked Radio Sheffield's commentary and as I'm used to listening to the radio rather than Barnsley Player, the interruptions don't bother me. I liked the coverage that Matt and Adam provided too and I think that's where people have really lost out: we used to have a choice, now 50% of the available commentaries have gone. Also, it's difficult to justify paying for something when the commentary the subscribers to Barnsley Player have just listened to was freely available on BBC Radio Sheffield. That makes little difference to those living away from South Yorkshire, but for those local to the club, Radio Sheffield put a lot of our away games on DAB. Not all, but a good percentage.
Totally agree with all that. If Matt and Adam had been commentating today, I would have listened to them on Player, even though the match was on Radio Sheffield. As you point out, I had that choice, which I no longer have following the decision to get rid of the lads. The interruptions never used to bother me when I was listening to Radio Sheffield in the pre-Player days - they were just part of the overall package provided by Radio Sheffield. However, now that I'm paying, they get on my breasts. On a couple of occasions this afternoon they returned from an interruption to inform us that we'd just had a shot, just had a corner etc. Imagine if we'd scored during an interruption. There would have been the world's biggest mass direct debit cancellation.
That could easily have happened too. At one point they announced we had a corner and then promptly left. If we'd won the corner whilst away there wouldn't have been that much they could have done I guess, but they knew we had one and still cut away. They got back after we had taken it to say we hadn't scored.
I've just had an email from their support service in response to my cancellation. They've completely misunderstood my reference to "interruptions" and they think it means that the commentary keeps dropping out! I will now delight in explaining exactly what I mean!
go for it fella give em both barrels... re=load and give it again... I am an exile of sorts as you know... next year I will be retiring (at the grand age of 60) and will be able to get my ST again.. last few years 'Player' has been a god send for me. But I was well hacked off when they got rid of our local commentary team. So give em **** matey and give em some on my behalf too.
I d rather have Ben Mansfords email address to complain direct to him. I would always listen to player commentary over radio sheffield, even in the car I would plug my phone in and stream the comm through my car stereo speakers. Not listened to a comm all season until today and that was only to see if it was as bad as people were making out. I am reluctant to cancel as i like the interviews etc, but I initially signed up for the commentary
The switch from Matt & Adam stank of censorship by the club to me. Fans will always be critical, whereas a BBC voice will always seek to be "impartial". I moaned about it from day one. The club (i.e. BM) won't listen.
copy and paste from BBC as to why commentary is not online... Why can't I listen to Football Commentary on my local radio station? For a number of high profile sporting events, such as the Premiership, the BBC only holds the rights to broadcast live commentary locally to the area covered by our radio transmitters. Our internet service is available across the UK and around the world and therefore we need to blank all output for which we do not hold international rights. We apologise for any inconvenience, but you can still listen to live commentary from your local station on your radio.
Saturday was the first time I'd listened to a game this season on Player. Lasted the first half hour before trips to New York Stadium, Doncaster & Wednesday got on my tits. I like Adam Oxley's commentary, I think he's good, but when you're tuning in specifically to a premium service for Barnsley Football Club, I couldn't give a **** about Doncaster. I'm going to cancel now too.
I genuinely thought the idea was now that we got Adam Oxley's commentary for the 90 mins, not the cut aways to other games. What a fckin piss take
The only thing that's stopped me cancelling is the fact that the highlights are actually pretty good this season. I think I've already missed more commentaries than I did over the whole of last year.
fvck it ive cancelled mine aswell, trouble is i thought i had cancelled it 12 months ago until i just checked in and logged in with my old details
I agree Adam Oxley is good. Having Dek Parker on sat was a bonus too. The other muppet they have had on a few times is hopeless. Long silences. It is just a shame we had an excellent service before and it was pulled without any consultation.
Was it an excellent service though? For one, the connection kept dropping out which was very annoying, but that now seems to be cured. Regards who does the commentary, I much prefer Radio Sheffield to the 2 previous lads on Barnsley player. So for me there is only one issue now and that is the switching round the grounds during match commentary which is nearly as bad as the connection dropping out but not quite. If they stopped doing that then it would be an excellent service.
