i'm not holding them responsible as such,i'm just saying that they are part of the problem, while ever people are prepared to go and support the whole premiership circus then the like of us dont stand a chance. All i'm saying is that Sky arnt the sole reason for the way football has turned out.
I'm not so sure anymore, I just dislike the financial side of football so much I don't know if I could be part of it. Having said that I don't think it's a moral dilemma I'll be wrestling with in the next few years.
I'm very close to jacking it in. It's just so boring. I was going to just go to away games which are a bit more fun but was swayed by someone from the club. I wish I'd stuck to my guns.
Good for you PP. I shall carry on going no matter what. I shall complain if the spectacle does not agree with me. I shall praise if it befits. Those who only turn up if they don't get to like what they see on the pitch are firstly not true supporters (I say this ironically, having been branded as such simply for disagreeing last season with a major poster who thought DW was the second coming) and secondly ought to find another team to try to give them what they feel that they want from watching football. You will never get your instant gratification from Oakwell. You will get imeasurable doses of pain watching Barnsley. Which make the brief respites of pleasure all the more enjoyable. If anyone's idea of passing their time satisfactorily is to post on a football team's website about how they are no longer going to turn up to watch the said team, then their Saturday and BBS existence is hollow, and they need to move on. Elsewhere. Please. PP says it feels right to be there no matter what. I agree.
I hope so, mate. Can I ask where this optimism and belief has come from? You've been a member here for two years yet most of your 141 posts have come in the last couple of weeks and they portray a very positive outlook. It's lovely. So what do you know, what are you seeing that a lot of us aren't?
I'll always watch/support my team, no matter what, when I can. But I can't pretend I'm struggling to be enthused right now. And if the OP and others are feeling similarly bereft of motivation etc, so what? Why shouldn't they state that here? Telling folk to go elsewhere, to move on etc?
I am harping on about a crowd who come on here, are now saying that they probably won't turn up anymore, and who generally poison the overall atmosphere on here. At least let's have those who turn up be the ones who come on here slagging the team the manager the owner the directors the club shop the catering etc. be the ones who are paying for the privelege of being able to provide their opinions. Is that fair?
The lads in the thread who've expressed their insouciance and lack of enthusiasm right now are all regulars at Oakwell, and the OP especially, goes to many away games. So I can't accept your point, mate. Unless you can tell me the lads you're referring to? I'm just not in the club of dividing our support. I think this is a great place to have a whinge etc. And as disinterested as I am at the moment, I'll be there as usual whenever I'm able.
I'm about the same as you. Been going since around 1988, between around 1996 to 2008 I barely missed a game, home and away. Was a season ticket holder up to 2010. Work circumstances mean I haven't had one since . . . but still went to every game I could, particularly under Wilson as I was desperate for him to be a success. But now all my enthusiasm has been drained. I can't justify the cost anymore to go to something I actually don't enjoy that much. I'll always be a Barnsley fan, but until the ticket price is in proportion to the enjoyment, the games I attend will be few and far between.
Well then I have no issue with you at all. I can whinge with the best. And do. But it narks me to hear posts about "staying in the pub" or "not worth turning up" etc.
I'm that disinterested I've just sorted Bradford away in the tinpot trophy. But seriously, I am lacking interest, enthusiasm etc. Maybe I'm just getting older. I dunno. It's not a cost thing (although prices are ridiculous). It's not a winning/losing thing. I just feel meh about things.
I get your point but at the same time that's the problem. We are supporters but the club should see us more as customers. Until that happens they will play on us being 'supporters' not 'customers' and keep up the shabby stuff like 300+ quid season passes, overpriced Puma merchandise, rubbish pre match entertainment, a supporters bar that's too small, breeze blocks to look at in concourse area etc. For whatever reason football clubs like ours feel they can treat the consumer differently to other brands. For example supermarkets wouldn't take your business for granted and expect you to keep going if the general experience was poor.
Then they shouldn't act like special snowflakes when the going gets tough should they? If frequenting Oakwell has ever instilled expectations of a certain quality of results that aren't being met right now you're severely deluded. It's Barnsley FC - you'll perpetually put yourself through the same misery, and occasionally - there'll be some good times to be had.
